Pibgorn - Meet the Characters   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
Pibgorn is a woodland fairy who feels that her weltanschauung cannot be satisfied by lugging dewdrops from leaf to petal and back again, nor by weaving gossamer magic upon the morning mists.
A recent addition to Pibgorn's cadre of rebellious and recondite comrades, Oognat is a hair fairy; responsible for stuffing tresses into the mouths and eyes of sleeping mortals, so that they will awaken in the proper frame of mind.
Pibgorn's friend, companion and frequent protector, Maurice is a field mouse who finds himself tumbling about in the wake of Pibgorn's peregrinations, trying to keep up as best he can.

 Pibgorn - Comixpedia
Pibgorn is a webcomic by Brooke McEldowney which started March 11 2002.
Pibgorn is published on the web by United Feature Syndicate (an unusual move by the syndicate), but does not appear in printed form at this time, although McEldowney has repeatedly said he would like to eventually publish Pibgorn as a book.
Possibly due to that, Pibgorn is characterized by involved story arcs which may seem better suited to a graphic novel than a daily comic, and it is also notable for its creative use of color and large format, attributes not usually associated with daily print comics.

Brooke McEldowney, Creator of 9 Chickwood Lane and Pibgorn
The Chickweed comic strip received interest from the three syndicates that were approached, and McEldowney accepted the first offer.
He launched Pibgorn, a comic strip about a tiny and somewhat untamed woodland fairy yearning for a more interesting life, in March of 2002 on Comics.com.

 Pibgorn!! - Tartsville
Here are some of the creator's character descriptions: "Pibgorn is a woodland fairy who feels that her weltanschauung cannot be satisfied by lugging dewdrops from leaf to petal and back again, nor by weaving gossamer magic upon the morning mists.
Geoff: "The solitary resident of the Glen Cottage, Geoff is a church organist who rescued Pibgorn after she took to the winter skies [apparently most of fairy civilization hibernates in the winter; Pibgorn later gets in political hot water for violating this custom] and crashed due to iced wings.
And when Pibgorn was explaining the concept of Christmas trees to Maurice the field mouse, I initially wondered if the fairy society she comes from was somehow supposed to be Christian, or at least observe the same seasonal decorative customs as the surrounding Xmas-obsessed humans.

 Pibgorn - About the comic
Pibgorn shouted a warning, but the hunter shot Dru.
The bullet did not hurt her for she is an immortal demon of the forest whose only weakness is jealousy.
Unmoved by Pibgorn's attempt to save her and jealous of the affection between Geoff and Pib, Dru shrank Pib back to fairy-size, clipped her wings, and flicked her wounded body far into the distance.

The title character is a fairy whose adventures span the fantasy and real worlds.
He's at least a visitor from another comic strip: 9 Chickweed Lane.
A field mouse, he's been a friend of Pib's from the very beginning, and he tries valiantly to keep up and help where he can.

The Dilbert Blog: Humor Formula   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
Comics don't have to be funny to be good...look at any Batman, Superman, Sandman, or any of the Sin City series.
Any comic that has a "fantasy world" in it- where one of the characters imagines the strip's world in terms of a surreal fantasy- is taking a page from Watterson's book, while Watterson himself got the idea from Snoopy in Peanuts, and expanded it.
There are some comics that I like even though they're not as funny as others because they have excellent artwork or story.

Pibgorn is written and drawn by Brooke McEldowney, who also does the amusing and involved strip 9 Chickweed Lane.
Pibgorn appears to be a story of music and magic, of faeries and strange adventures that two months of strips barely scratches the surface of.

Pibgorn - Reviews on RateItAll   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
What is both intriguing and enticing is at the same time Pib possess a girlishness that makes her at once innocent and fresh; while Dru is Woman personified in that she is both strong and vulnerable and wise and scatterbrained all at the same time...
Pibgorn's characters and plots (and those of McEldowney's other strip, 9 Chickweed Lane) are intelligent, witty, sexy, ferocious, wry, innocent, complicated, literate, sarcastic, humane, knowing, elegant and sophisticated.
Unfortunately, Pibgorn will probably never be a Sunday comic in your typical newspaper because of that, but we can always hope.

 Ben - About the comic
BEN is a new comic strip about family life as seen through the eyes of a retired couple who have offered to babysit their first grandson since their daughter went back to work.
Too often on the comics page we see older couples constantly bickering.
All she does is shop, clean the house and nag at her husband for drinking and all he does is drink and complain about what a nag his wife is. BEN does away with the stereotypes of seniors being cranky, miserable and having limited interests.

PIBGORN is jus the latest one of a bunch of comics I quit reading lately.
It is when the social problem, or the violent theme goes on for a month or more that the artist has quit doing the strip for the reasons he first started with, but instead is now using his strip for a forum to preach his ideas.
We haven't even mentioned the current political and social environment that limits and shackles the average cartoonist, preventing him or her from addressing things that are really funny in our country.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Pibgorn is an excellent little fantasy/adventure/thriller online comic strip that Spook turned me onto a couple of years ago.
The reason I’m bringing this up — and that I discovered the quiz above — is that lots of people are suddenly hitting my old blog from a Google Images search for pibgorn2 … and for which a graphic on my blog is the only result.
BTW: A pibgorn is actually a name for an archaic musical instrument of the woodwind variety, sometimes made of bone.

When Brooke McEldowney isn't laboring over an actual story, he'll just be toying with colors and the comic panel itself, something that many other comic strip artists never do.
