Piccadilly Circus tube station is the London Underground station located directly beneath Piccadilly Circus itself, with entrances at every corner.
The old station building finally closed for traffic on 21 July 1929, it was demolished in the 1980s when the large building on the corner of Piccadilly Circus and Haymarket was constructed.
Piccadilly Circus was opened 10 March 1906 on the Bakerloo Line; the Piccadilly Line platforms were opened on 15 December 1906.

The original Piccadilly Circus station was to have been the terminus for the line from South Kensington, and was to be located at the junction of Air Street with Piccadilly (where the street Piccadilly was much narrower then than now).
This changed the orientation of the station with the escalators feeding mid portions of the Bakerloo platforms from an intermediate landing and then the overlapping portions of the Piccadilly platforms together with a large subsurface booking office.
Separate passages were provided for Piccadilly line passengers entering and leaving the platforms; passengers wishing to join Piccadilly line trains were deposited in a cross passage near the east end of the eastbound platform and those leaving had to make their way to the east headwall of the eastbound platform.
