Pickering Nuclear Generating Station is a Canadian nuclear power station located in Pickering, Ontario.
The Pickering station is one of the largest nuclear facilities in the world and comprises 8 CANDU nuclear reactors located on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, having a total output of 4124 MW (capacity net) and 4336 MW (gross net) when all units are online.
Pickering is only surpassed in Canada by the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, which while also having 8 reactors, has a greater output.

Pickering A - the first four of the Pickering reactors - went into service in 1971 and continued to operate safely until 1997 when it was placed in voluntary lay-up in 1997 as part of what was then Ontario Hydro's nuclear improvement program.
Pickering B - units five, six, seven and eight - continues to operate safely since they were brought into service in 1983.
Pickering A and Pickering B are very similar in structure and facilities.

 Pickering Hydro Reactors Shut Down
A problem with the water that flows into the boilers at the Pickering Nuclear Power Plant forced the shutdown of the largest power generation facility in Ontario.
Officials with Ontario Power Generation, which runs the facility, refused to comment on the closure, but a source at the Pickering plant confirmed the shutdown for maintenance.
Pickering Mayor Wayne Arthurs said three operational reactors were shut down — one due to operator error in tripping a circuit breaker on a safety shutdown system and the others as a result of leaks in the water line that feeds the boilers.

All 19 men, aged 18 to 33, were from Punjabi province in Pakistan, and were in Canada on student visas and forged immigration documents to maintain their presence in the country.
Several of the men were taking flying lessons, including one whose lessons took him over Pickering nuclear power plant, located 20 mi/30 km east of Toronto.
Other men were turned away from the gates of the Pickering plant after claiming they wanted to take a shortcut walk through the plant on their way to the beach.

According to the document, one man raised suspicion because he is currently taking commercial pilot lessons to qualify as a multi-engine commercial pilot.
In April, two other "associates of the group" were deemed suspicious when police found them outside the gates of the Pickering plant.
The document notes the men are all from "or have connections to the Punjab province in Pakistan that is noted for Sunni extremism." Among the mens' suspicious associations, according to officials, are individuals who have access to nuclear gauges.

The workers began leaving the site and had to be asked back to tighten a plug they had loosened in the plant's radioactive-containment system.
Considering that it’s a nuclear plant, you would have figured that they would have thought that through.
