Pickwick Lake was created in December 1937 when the Tennessee Valley Authority closed its new dam across the Tennessee River and flooded the farm land valley.
Pickwick Lake was dedicated June 2, 1940, and a crowd of 30,000 people gathered on the Pickwick south earth dam for the services.
The park was opened in August 1972 and eight of the village houses remained for park employees.

Pickwick State Park Marina will soon fly a Clean Marina flag in recognition of the marina’s efforts to preserve and protect water quality in the Tennessee River system.
It is the first state park marina in Tennessee to receive the clean marina designation.
“Pickwick State Park has implemented innovative measures to handle boat sewage as part of its efforts to meet Clean Marina standards,” said Damien Simbeck, TVA’s Clean Marina coordinator for Pickwick Reservoir.

Official counts from the Pickwick Landing State Park Rangers posted a “through the gate” crowd of 30,080 spectators on hand for the inaugural running of the  Pickwick Landing Challenge presented by Freddy T’s and Pier 57.
The Hardin County Convention and Visitor Bureau’s Chief, Tanya Irwin awarded the beautiful Inaugural Pickwick Challenge trophies to the Champions in each class.
  Freddy T’s Restaurant and Pier 57 Marina had their multi million dollar offshore racing equipment on display giving the entire state park a festival type atmosphere.
