 Identification
pied bare-faced tamarin, or bicolored tamarin, as it is more commonly known is a member of the family Callitrichadae, which are the smallest among New World Anthropoids.
The name, pied bare-faced tamarin was given for the obvious physical markings on the face and coat.
The bicolored tamarins are quadrupedal, arboreal, diurnal animals.

I'm a Pied Tamarin and I live with my family, and other animals, on Jersey at the zoo founded by Gerald Durrell, the author of all those brilliant books.
You can see we are a handsome species, but you might not be able to tell that we, as adults, have a body length of about 10 inches - 25 cm to you metric people - but our tails add at least the same again.
Pied Tamarins have been kept by Jersey Zoo since 1990, with lots of interesting things in our enclosure to keep us occupied.

Over forty pied tamarins, which represents some 45% of the world’s captive population of this species, can be seen at the Trust’s headquarters at Jersey Zoo.

The variegated spider monkey (Ateles hybridus), found only in Colombia and Venezuela, moves from Endangered to Critically Endangered, and is at extreme risk.
Threatened by habitat loss due to urban growth, agriculture, and cattle grazing, the pied tamarin (Saguinus bicolor) also moves from Endangered to Critically Endangered.
After nearly 30 years of conservation efforts, including the establishment of a new subpopulation through translocation to a new protected area, the population size has increased, IUCN said.
