Moscovici joined the private office of Lionel Jospin, who, at the time, was the Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sport, where he assumed responsibility for budgetary affairs.
Moscovici was elected to the general council of the Doubs Department (in the canton of Sochaux — Grand-Charmont) and then to the city council of Montbéliard in 1995.
Moscovici became Member of the French Parliament for the fourth constituency of the Doubs Department.

Moscovici remphasizes that the fight against corruption is a priority, especially at high level, and insists on the continuation of justice reform.
Moscovici's report restates the EP's wish for Romania to join the European Union as scheduled, on January 1, 2007 and calls on EU members to ratify the country's EU accession treaty as soon as possible.

Moscovici also told Basescu that Romania must join the EU on January 1, 2007, but stressed that the authorities need to continue with the reforming process as the EU expects Romania to solve the problems mentioned in the EC's report published on May 16.

The European Parliament passed Thursday Pierre Moscovici’s report regarding Romania’s accession to the European Union with 542 votes “for”, 41 votes “against” and 37 abstentions.
Socialist MEP Pierre Moscovici congratulated Romanian authorities for the progress and the successful reforms but urged Bucharest to continue efforts in justice reforms and the fight against corruption, in absorbing EU funds, especially for agriculture, and in improving food safety standards.
