Pierre Plantard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pierre Plantard from 1937 onwards began forming phantom associations with the aim of "purifying and renewing France" showing his anti-semitic and anti-masonic inclinations.
Pierre Plantard at the time was working as a draughtsman for a company in the town of Annemasse, in the Haute-Savoie region of south-east France.
Plantard in reality was the son of a butler and a cook, who had no recorded links to the Merovingians.

Priory of Sion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The founders and signatories are inscribed as Pierre Plantard (known as "Chyren"), André Bonhomme (known as "Stanis Bellas"), Jean Delaval and Armand Defago.
Plantard originally hoped that the Priory of Sion would become an influential cryptopolitical pseudo-masonic lodge (similar to the P2 cabal) dedicated to the restoration of chivalry and monarchy, which would promote Plantard's own megalomaniacal claim to being a legitimate pretender to the throne of France.
Plantard had tried to argue that the Jean Galibert tomb at Les Pontils was a "prototype" for Poussin's painting, however the tomb was situated directly opposite a farmhouse (behind the foliage) and was not in the "middle of nowhere" in the French countryside, as is commonly assumed.

Plantard claimed that he was working for the Resistance, and produced documents (which have not been independently verified) showing that he was imprisoned by the Gestapo from October 1943 to February 1944.
However, Plantard certainly visited the area in the late 1950s or early 1960s, although he seems to have been more interested in the nearby village of Rennes-les-Bains, and it is documented that he bought a parcel of land on the hill near Château Blanchefort.
Plantard was named as Grand Master of the Priory of Sion from 1981 to 1984, when, by his own account, he resigned as the result of internal politics.

DaVinci Code Revealed: The Movie, P.1
The reason why Pierre Plantard claimed to be a Merovingian Pretender is because in 1960 he read an article by Louis Saurel about the Kings of France, which gave the impression that Dagobert II was the "last Merovingian King" (it was in fact Childeric III).
Pierre Plantard was now receiving big publicity and he invented a new allegation claiming that although the parchments were forgeries created by Philippe de Chérisey, they were nevertheless based on "originals".
Pierre Plantard's main thrust lay in the field of genealogies, not in surrealism, and in his claim to be descended from Dagobert II [13].

Plantard and his friend Andre Bonhomme had organized the small group known as Priory of Sion, in 1956, to endorse affordable housing; they published a pamphlet entitled Circuit to promote their ideas.
This false name provided Plantard with a "bloodline" to prove he was descended from Jesus and Mary Magdalene; when he was forced to recant on the entire fabrication, this too was discounted.

No, Pierre is just an everyday "Joe Alchemist", with an interest in Gisors, whose opinion, it seems, de Sède felt he should air as an appendix to his main work.
Nevertheless, Plantard was saying that Gisors had been created with alignments to this star - which from an astronomical point was impossible; but from an alchemical point meant that Canopus and Gisors had a "subterranean connection".

In effect, the originator of the association and its key protagonist was most probably Pierre Plantard, the General Secretary of the association although in practice its President was Andre Bonhomme. The choice of the name, 'Sion', was based on a hill south of Annemasse, known as 'Mont Sion'.
Plantard originally hoped that the Priory of Sion would become an influential cryptopolitical lodge (similar to the P2 cabal), but dedicated to the restoration of chivalry and monarchy, and to promote Plantard's own claim to be the rightful king in France.

By 1964 Plantard created the novel claim about himself that he was directly descended from the Merovingian king Dagobert II – and the central purpose of being of this version of the Prieuré de Sion was this very claim (Plantard was really descended from a 16th century peasant who picked walnuts).
Plantard was let-off with a severe warning and never again revived his Prieuré de Sion activities, living out the rest of his life in seclusion in various addresses at Perpignan, Paris and Barcelona.

It has probably more to do with the fact that Pierre Plantard was not up to the task when defending Vaincre than the idea that Vaincre was a right wing journal.

Pierre Plantard’s own words in Vaincre stated that he took part in establishing youth movements, that there was an arrangement with the Vatican.

Furthermore, contrary to public opinion, the Merovingians are not extinct but have surviving descendants still alive, the last of which in 1967 was Pierre Plantard, who was therefore the only true contender to the role of King of France (of course, under the improbable case of a restoration of the French monarchy).
Perhaps Plantard was not the last descendant of Jesus Christ and the true Priory of Sion was not his organization.
Actually, Plantard was inspired for his list of Grand Masters of the Priory of Sion by some of the lists of alleged «Imperators», i.e., supreme heads, and «distinguished members» of the AMORC, the Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, which circulated in France, were AMORC was quite successful.
