Piers Haggard of the DGGB explained, "We have been suffering a cramping of a director's identity and input.
Larger domestic and American movies could get screen time while smaller, independent movies go virtually unseen." But Lorente acknowledged that while international distribution may be a problem, the main focus of the meeting was on finding a mutual ground on which to secure the basic economic and creative rights of all directors.

 Venom
Though reviled by critics, Piers Haggard's VENOM is a sleek and enjoyable thriller that actually gives its big name cast some meaty material to play with.
Little did they realize that, given a terrible script to work with, director Piers Haggard made the most of a bad situation by crafting a taut and stylish thriller.
There is an audio commentary by director Piers Haggard that moderated by Jonathon Southcott.

 Monsters At Play: Venom Review
The DVD includes commentary by director Piers Haggard, who explains originally the film was to be done by Tobe Hooper, but he backed out due to mental problems.
When Piers came on board at the last minute, he found he had to shoot the script "as is"; so his input to his own film became minimal.
Also, the egos of the cast were constantly conflicting, especially Kinski and Reed, so Piers had his hands full getting them to do their jobs.

I first saw Blood on Satan's Claw on the 23rd of April 1982 when it was shown on Tyne Tees TV as part of their (then-)regular Friday-night horror slot.
Blood on Satan's Claw is a full-blooded, if somewhat rough-edged exercise in Satanic exploitation: a handful of set-pieces work very well, although the script has a thrown-together, ramshackle feel with characters vanishing off for long periods, some of them never to return.
With a script credited to Haggard and Robert Wynne-Simmons, Blood on Satan's Claw (known, like Witchfinder General, by various different titles) is an atmospheric, intermittently effective journey into Britain's bloodstained history.

 Venom - Movie Review
Sure enough, when the two men appeared together in Piers Haggard's 'Venom', their testosterone-fuelled antagonism offscreen translated into an effectively menacing aggression onscreen, while amidst all this machismo a very real snake keeps rearing its head.
If 'Venom' were remade today, it would no doubt feature a computer generated, fully animated serpent like the one in the triumphantly daft 'Anaconda' (whose sequel comes out later this year).
Best of all is the full audio commentary by director Piers 'Quatermass' Haggard, who took over the production when the original director, Tobe 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' Hooper, had some kind of breakdown.

Venom - Digital Retribution DVD Review
From director Piers Haggard’s commentary track, it sounds like Hooper’s footage didn’t look good.
Haggard thinks that the snake and model date the film, citing flowing, uninterrupted CGI of modern cinema.
Kinski’s lack of professionalism is covered as well, amidst the tales of Reed’s hijinks against the silly German man. Haggard also explains that he came in late, replacing Hooper, so he couldn’t change the script significantly.

This is a project that once had Tobe Hooper's name attached to direct, but reportedly due to "creative differences" he left, and made-for-TV-movie aficionado Piers Haggard replaced him.

Satan’s Skin (aka Blood on Satan’s Claw) Film Review - Time Out Film
Not nearly so atmospheric as Michael Reeves' The Witchfinder General, but for the first hour Piers Haggard keeps his theme and the blood flowing nicely.
It begins in style, with a farmer in 17th century England digging up a skull with one eye still working, and then there is a disembodied furry arm and claw on the rampage.
The only thing the cast of Olde Worlde actors can think of is human sacrifice, and there are a lot of nubile actresses to choose from.
