In a race that's often decided by the lean of a body at the tape, Michael Johnson won the 200-meter sprint at the Olympic trials by four yards last week, shattering track and field's oldest individual record.
Johnson's time of 19.66 seconds in Atlanta broke the record of 19.72 seconds set by Pietro Mennea of Italy 17 years ago in Mexico City.
What made Johnson's accomplishment so impressive was that, unlike Mennea, he accomplished his record sprint at sea level, running his eighth race in nine days.

Mike Marsh ran 19.73 at the 1992 U.S. Olympic trials, I belive he strided through the finish line in a semi-final race or it was the finals and he raised his hands several meters before crossing the finishline...either way, he probably would ran around 19.5x that day.
Also, Pietro Mennea who ran 19.72 in 1979 was only a 10 flat 100m sprinter.
Mike is the man, but his 400 record will likely fall in the next year or 2 and his 200 record likely be touched as well, although probably not until after the 2008 Olympics when guys like Bolt, Gatlin, Powell and Spearmon will be in their prime.
