Pike served at the Battle of Tippecanoe, and was killed in 1813 in the War of 1812.
In the county the population was spread out with 24.10% under the age of 18, 7.80% from 18 to 24, 25.70% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 19.20% who were 65 years of age or older.

Stephen was a farmer, carpenter, mason, brick layer and he could finish a house from celler to attic, hewing the timbers from the trees of the forest.
Their move to Illinois was probably precipitated by the death of his father, Joseph Wing, on February 12, 1844.
Thanks to the documents that remain at the courthouse in Pittsville, Pike County, Illinois, we also know that in June of 1854, Stephen became the legal guardian of Adelia and Byron Wing, the children of his brother, Joseph Smith Wing.

William Grimshaw was one of the founders of the Illinois Republican Party and a delegate to the 1847 Constitutional Convention.
He was commissioned public administrator of Pike county by Governor Reynolds and was a member of the bar of the county for sixty years in active practice.
In a history of Pike county that was published ill 1880, is the following: "William A. Grimshaw, the oldest practicing attorney of the county, ranked as One of the leading lawyers of the state, was admitted to the bar in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He was a merchant, miller and farmer in Illinois and in 1862 he enlisted in Company E of the Fiftieth Illinois Infantry and saw active service in the war until its close.
Having secured a homestead in Kansas, he went back to Pike County, Illinois, and closed up his affairs and returned to Lyons in November, 1878, and was a successful and prominent member of the community until his death on May 17, 1886.
Hiram Dinsmore married Eliza Thomas, who was born in Pike County, Illinois, in 1841 and died at Lyons, Kansas, June 29, 1904.

Just days after the hydrants arrived in September, the Hull-Kinderhook Fire Department in Pike County used a portable dry hydrant to extinguish a grain dryer fire near Hull, IL that threatened to ignite two 100,000 bushel grain bins full of corn.
With limited staff, the volunteer fire department was unable to bring a tank truck, and instead pumped water from a nearby pond with a portable hydrant.
