In April, the 60th anniversary of the fall of Bataan and Corregidor and of the infamous “Death March” will be observed in the Philippines with several special events.
Bataan fell on April 9, 1942, and Corregidor, on May 6, 1942.
Survivors of the Battle of Bataan (around 10,000 Americans and 65,000 Filipinos) were forced to walk in blazing April heat from Mariveles and Bagac, Bataan to San Femando, Pampanga (approximately 100 kilometers) in what has become known as the Bataan Death March.

Of this number, 50,000 Filipinos and 10,500 American soldiers were forced to join the Death March, a 105-kilometer journey from the Zero Kilo-meter marker in Mariveles, Bataan, to Capas, Tarlac.

BALANGA City, Bataan - A suspected ranking leader of the New People’s Army guerrilla front operating in Bataan-Zambales-Tarlac was killed while a couple was injured in a one-hour encounter at dawn Tuesday between 40 rebels and the Army’s 24th Infantry Battalion at the foot of Mount Samat, Pilar, Bataan.

I've never even come across baked buchi, if not for a couple of friends who have roots in Bataan and who have described the delicacy to me with such fondness and longing.
One of them who recently went on a trip to Pampanga brought me some, and readily shared how it was cooked in his grandmother's house.
I learned from a comment left on my post about Pinoy streetfood by Bataan native Apicio that these are called bilobilo and that many kinds of fillings are used, like ube (a kind of taro or purple yam), yellow munggo (mung beans) and red azukis, again, like the Chinese buchis.

Wawa, Pilar Bataan with my grandparents (guess this is the reason why I'm the favorite grandchild of my Grandma) I stayed there when I was a 6 months old baby till I was 3 years old, I have to go back in Manila to start my studies.
I stayed with my Tita Monette's house till I was in Grade I; I was seeing my family once in a while.
Then at last, I'm with my family but I'm not so happy because I'm not close to my younger brother and older sister that time, we would always love to fight for everything.

It is a national monument dedicated to the victims of the Battle of Bataan.
You can go to the top of the cross (about 90m high?) by elevator and see a nice view of the surrounding area and Manila Bay.

The President will also lead the wreath-laying ceremony at the Mt. Samat Shrine, where she will be joined by Ambassadors Kristie A. Kenney and Ryuichiro Yamazaki of the United States and Japan, respectively.
Bataan Governor Enrique T. Garcia will welcome President Arroyo and the other guests.
