  Pileni
Pileni is a culturally important island in the Reef Islands, in the northern part of the Solomon Islands province of Temotu.
Despite its location in the heart of Melanesia, the population of the islands is Polynesian.
The name of the island, Pileni, has also been given to the Samoic-Outlier language spoken there and on the surrounding islands, as well as in the Duff Islands, some 200 miles to the east.

 MP Pileni
Professor Pileni’s accomplishments have been recognized by the increasing frequency of invitations to be a plenary lecturer at American, Japanese and other international scientific meetings, symposia and congresses.
Professor Pileni launched her scientific carrier by investigating the reaction mechanism for the gas phase photoisomerization of pyrazine to pyrimidine and then focused her attention on problems of greater biological and pharmacological relevance.
She showed that these phenomena are due to two factors: first, the interaction potential which is the sum of that generally observed in the absence of macromolecules; second, the self-association of the macromolecules.

The Light of Melanesia, by H.H. Montgomery (1904)
These islands alone would more than tax the strength of a white superintending clergyman, but at present they are treated as the rim of a sphere which is far larger and entirely beyond the compass of any man. I landed upon two only of these islands--Pileni and Nukapu.
Those who are learned in ethnology assert that the natives in Pileni and in most of this group are Polynesians.
Pileni, like any other recently-formed coral island, consists of a more or less circular space but little raised above the sea, planted with cocoanuts among the usual bush, and supporting a small population.

Dictionary and Grammar of the Language of Sa'a and Ulawa, Solomon Islands, by Walter G. Ivens (1918)
On Fenua Loa and Nifilole and the islands to the eastward the language is Melanesian and is akin to that spoken on Ndeni; on Matema, Pileni, Nukapu, and Nupani the language is a much-decayed form of a Polynesian language.
In addition to Matema, Pileni, Nukapu, and Nupani in the Reefs, there is Tikopia to the southeast, and in the Solomons Rennell and Bellona, west of San Cristoval, and Sikaiana, north of Ulawa, islands all lying out of the ordinary track.
In 1899 George Domo reopened the school on Pileni and a school was begun in one of the villages on Fenua Loa.

 Linguist List - Book Information
The Polynesian Outlier language Pileni is spoken by approximately 2,000 people on a group of small coral islands in Temotu Province, Solomon Islands.
Pileni is clearly a nominative-accusative language, although certain morphosyntactic processes reflect what may be traces of an earlier ergative morphology.
In the basics of its phonology and morphology Pileni resembles other Polynesian languages, although the phonology is considerably more complex than is common in these languages, with phonemic aspiration on stops and a number of phonetically conditioned consonant alternations.

Nanoparticles possess fascinating properties that are unseen in the bulk form of materials.
The book Nanocrystals Forming Mesoscopic Structures, compiled by M.P. Pileni, presents review chapters on the fundamental science and technology involved with these mesoscopic structures of nanoparticles, preparation, and control of the properties, with a focus on the applied aspects of two- and three-dimensional self-assembled superlattices.
The subject, and hence the book, is not aimed toward a particular group of researchers, but to a diverse and inter-disciplinary audience in chemistry, biology, materials science, and related research fields.
