Topic: Pilgrim (book)

The Pilgrim's Progress - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bunyan wrote this book while imprisoned in 1675 for violations of the Conventicle Act, which punished people for conducting unauthorised religious services outside of the Church of England.
Samuel Johnson said that "this is the great merit of the book, that the most cultivated man cannot find anything to praise more highly, and the child knows nothing more amusing." Three years after its publication (1681), it was reprinted in colonial America, and was widely read in the Puritan colonies.
The book was the basis of an opera by Ralph Vaughan Williams, premiered in 1951; see The Pilgrim's Progress (opera).

But, I cannot accept that through the madness, an animal (which is what the book described -- but, not even the demons) can take absolute control of 400 men and their horses, and make them talk and act completely normal enough to fool people into thinking they had not been touched.
Another 'hard to swallow' aspect of the book is the burgeoning romantic relationship between Zenith Sunsoar and her grandfather.

Accidental Pilgrim - Travels with a Celtic Saint - by David Moore
The Accidental Pilgrim by David Moore charts the journey of one man and his bike as he travels from Ireland to Italy in the footsteps of the bad-ass seventh-century Irish saint Columbanus.
He possesses no religious belief and recognises that the interest in Columbanus for his college days and this long trip across Europe are primarily an excuse to postpone the future.
The book also manages to avoid the trap of simply being a diary of places, journeys and punctures.

Comic Book Resources - CBR News - The Comic Wire
While there were many universally celebrated comic books in 2004, one seemed to especially cause outbursts of extreme joy and happiness: "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life," an OGN (original graphic novel) from Oni Press.
Also, as Scott Pilgrim is presented as pseudo-manga, the fl and white art and the small size and the cheap paper and the typesetting are all tailored to that presentation.
As previously mentioned, the acclaim for "Scott Pilgrim"-- both volumes-- has been universally positive and though O'Malley is proud of the work, he's not sure he can say exactly why the book has resonated with such a breadth of readers.

Comic World News | Grim Tidings
When I was waiting for my girlfriend to come through the doors, watching monitors that announced that her plane had already landed and that the people on said plane were in customs, I was the same age as Scott Pilgrim in the latest book, which is kind of strange to think about.
There’s a scene pretty early on in the Scott Pilgrim book that I was reading where we flash back to Scott just after he’s been dumped by his girlfriend, and he’s lying on the ground, stunned, melodramatically saying “Oh God… I’m so alone…” That was me, back then.
The “Infinite Sadness” that the title of the new Scott Pilgrim book refers to, I guess, is the perpetual reliving of Scott’s break-up with Envy, and the effects that it still has on him, years later.
