This 25 Hz pilot, unlike the pilot used for FM stereo, is not used in the demultiplexing process.
Because it is low in frequency, it may take longer for the pilot detection circuitry to light the light than it does for the decode circuitry to operate - so the listener is likely to hear stereo separation before the light turns on.
High frequency noise and the 10 kHz pilot tones are removed by the low pass filter.

Specifically, the symbols used in the pilots are uniquely located in a time-frequency grid, where the locations are specified by periodic pilot tone hopping sequences.
Particular examples of pilot tone hopping sequences are parallel slope hopping sequences in which the periodicity of the sequences is chosen to be a prime number of symbol time intervals.
Specifically, the symbols used in the pilots are uniquely located in a time-frequency grid, i.e., plane, where the locations are specified by periodic pilot tone hopping sequences.

The pilot signals 106 may be generated either externally or by circuitry disposed on the same integrated circuit die (or within the same integrated circuit package) as the time-interleaved ADC 100 and, at least in one embodiment, are harmonically related to the sampling clock frequency.
In one embodiment, the magnitude of the phase correction is determined according to the magnitude of the phase error and the direction of the phase correction is determined according to whether the phase of the pilot transform leads or lags the phase angle that is midway between the phase angles of the neighboring pilot transforms.
Alternatively, in applications where continuous presence of the pilot tone can be tolerated, the pilot can be continuously supplied in the input signal, allowing the ADC to continuously self-calibrate and thus apply gain and timing signal corrections as necessary to avoid drift (e.g., as may result from changes in voltage and temperature).

 Pilot
Many appliances that use natural gas or propane as their fuel utilize a pilot light, which is a small outlet of gas kept continually burning and generally used to light the larger burners on the appliance.
In telecommunications, a pilot signal (or pilot tone) is used as an indicator, such as to indicate the presence of FM stereo or AM stereo.
Early on, pilots were normally fabricated of bars mounted on a frame; later on, sheet metal pilots were often used for their additional smoothness, and some cast steel pilots were employed for their mass and smooth shape.

U.S. Patent: 5023945 - Transmission system using parallel optic links to achieve enhanced dynamic range - June 11, 1991
Operation of the pilot tone equalization circuit 16 initially requires that a pilot tone be added to the input signal 9 to produce a composite signal which is then coupled to splitter 10.
The pilot tone equalization circuit in each link operates in cooperation with the other circuits to equalize the delay times of the individual optical links as measured by the phase of the individually detected pilot tones.
After signal 20 is detected by photodiode 15, the pilot tone is removed from the detected signal with a filter network 31, amplified by amplifier 32, and then split into two intermediate tone signals by splitter 33.

It is somewhat problematic when reproducing on two-track heads as the pilot tone (60Hz) does not cancel out–another reason to have a full-track mono head assembly.
Nagra, Stellavox, and Tandberg all made units capable of accepting the 60 (or 50) Hz “pilot tone” from a movie camera or crystal synch unit so that the camera motor and the tape were locked together and running at the same speed.
On playback, the pilot tone allowed adjustment of the tape speed to accurately reflect the camera speed so when the sound was transferred to sprocketed magnetic media, the sound and picture would line up.

 Relics - FM Stereo Transmission
A method commonly used in (double side-band suppressed carrier) DSB-SC modulation to provide synchronisation between modulator and demodulator is to transmit a sinusoidal tone (pilot tone) whose frequency and phase are related to the carrier frequency.
The receiver circuitry detects the pilot tone and translates it to 38 kHz, which is then used to demodulated the encoded signal.
In the receiver, the pilot tone is filtered out and is doubled in frequency which is then used to synchronise the demodulator to the modulator.

Automatic VSB/QAM modulation recognition method and apparatus - Patent 5636250
In order to detect the presence or absence of a VSB pilot tone, the center frequency of the sliding passband filter 122 is moved across a preselected frequency region of the received HDTV signal where it is anticipated that a VSB pilot tone will be found when the received HDTV signal is a VSB signal.
In accordance with the second embodiment of the present invention, the VSB pilot tone detection threshold and the analysis period detection threshold are used, in conjunction with the analysis period control signal, to determine the presence or absence of a VSB pilot tone.
By requiring that a VSB pilot tone be detected multiple times during a preselected sampling period, signal noise and other types of interference are less likely to result in a false VSB decision signal being generated than is the case with the first embodiment of the present invention.

A 19 kHz pilot tone is then added, to allow allow receivers to detect the presence of a stereo-encoded signal.
This backwards compatibility was important, as when the FM stereo system was introduced in the U.S. in the 1960s, mono FM transmissions had been in service since the 1940s, and there was a large installed base of mono receivers that needed to be able to receive stereo broadcasts without any modification.

Pilot, it seemed, had long ago abandoned his rather hopeless attempt to handle the spiralling whirlpool of problems himself – instead he had taken to delegating duties to the crew who had accepted these never ending assignments with the weary condemnation of the damned.
Pilot’s response – a more restrained but none the less quite emphatic refusal – had been less than he had hoped for and so, despite the angry protests and occasional threats from his overworked shipmates, he had nonetheless set up state in the centre chamber and refused to lift a finger.
At Pilot’s request, she had spent the day traipsing from tier to tier sealing this, and tinkering with that until her travels had brought her to this deserted hanger to investigate a possible short circuit in the fuelling system for the transport pod.

Orban FM Radio Products ~ Optimod-FM 5300 Signal Flow
Although a 16 kHz bandwidth limitation is more than is strictly needed to protect the pilot tone, the RDS requires protection over a substantially wider bandwidth (±2 kHz), and 16 kHz provides this protection.
Protecting the pilot tone and subcarrier regions is particularly difficult with a conventional composite clipper because appropriate filters will not only add overshoot but also compromise stereo separation — filtering causes the single-channel composite waveform to “lift off the baseline.”
While the processing never clips the pilot tone, the extra spectrum generated by the processing can fall into the 19 kHz region, compromising the ability of receivers to recover the pilot tone cleanly.

This pilot signal is used by the receiver to recover the double-sideband suppressed-carrier (DSBSC) modulated stereo-difference (L – R) audio channel at 2H, and the SAP and PRO channels at 5H and 6.5H.
Thus, this BTSC pilot feedback clock-synthesis method will provide a more accurate master clock than a conventional fractional-N PLL clock, since the master clock will be generated directly with the correct frequency feedback ratio.
A BTSC pilot from the secondary channel of a dual BTSC encoder is continuously compared with the NTSC horizontal sync rate (15.734 kHz) to derive a self-sustaining stable master clock frequency of 12.288 MHz.
