Pine Bunting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pine Bunting, Emberiza leucocephalos, is a passerine bird in the bunting family Emberizidae, a group most modern authors now separate from the finches, Fringillidae.
The Pine Bunting breeds across much of temperate Asia, migrating south to central Asia, north India and southern China in winter.
The Pine Bunting is a robust 16-17.5-centimetre bird, with a thick seed-eater's bill.

Bunting (bird) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Buntings are a group of mainly European passerine birds of the family Emberizidae.
They are seed-eating birds with stubby, conical bills, and are the Old World equivalents of the species known in North America as sparrows (However, these birds are not closely related to the Old World sparrows which are in the family Passeridae).
Similarly, there are a few species named "buntings" which are now classed in the cardinal family, like the Painted Bunting and Indigo Bunting.

Pine Bunting is a scarce but regular winter visitor to northern Israel, where it prefers higher altitudes than the majority of Yellowhammers that winter there (Shirihai 1996).
Personal observations suggest Yellowhammer is more abundant in Lebanon than northern Israel, and as Pine Bunting associates with this species, this new record appears unsurprising, and further observations may prove this species to be as regular as in Israel.
