Pink Flamingos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pink Flamingos is a 1972 film directed by John Waters.
In 1997 the film was re-released, with an improved stereo soundtrack (which, unlike the original, was made available to the general public, on compact disc), and after the end of the original movie the new version contained a brief video commentary by Waters, plus a few scenes cut from the original release.
The Funday Pawpet Show holds what is called the "Pink Flamingo Challenge", in which the ending to the movie is played to the audience while they eat a (preferrably chocolate) confection.

If pink flamingos were the ultimate in bad taste, then people were sure to place them on their lawn to bug their neighbors.

In retrospect, Waters' 1972 breakthrough, Pink Flamingos, defines his style -- not just because it initiated his popularity or because it ends with arguably the most shocking scene in cinema history (if you don't know by now) -- but because of the badge of low-culture from which it took its name.
Pink Flamingos was a movie that was made to make fun of hippies.
And although his budgets have increased over the years -- Pink Flamingos was made for $10,000, Serial Mom cost $13 million -- he says that the process has remained more or less the same and brags that Serial Mom would have cost $20 million if it had been made by anyone in the Hollywood system.
