Pink Gin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pink Gin is a cocktail made fashionable in the United Kingdom in the mid-19th century, consisting of jenever and a dash of 'pink' (Angostura bitters, a dark red extract of gentian and spices, known from the 1820s at Angostura in Venezuela but now made in Trinidad and Tobago).
Pour a couple measures of gin in the glass, add water as desired and serve.
Pink gin is a typically English way of enjoying gin.

Plymouth Gin Distillery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gin, being a cheap alcoholic beverage, was bought in bulk by the naval authorities in Devonport.
The cocktail 'Pink Gin' was actually invented as a means to get sailors to drink Angostura bitters in an attempt to curb the malnourishment that was rife on long voyages in those days.
Thus, pink gin became a staple drink of the Royal Navy, and became world renowned.

Not to be confused with a pink gin, which is just gin and bitters, a gin and pink is basically a variation on my old favorite, the gin and tonic.
I like my gin drinks strong, so I use at least 3 or 4 ounces of gin, but those less accustomed to the taste of gin may want to use only 2 ounces, which would be the more typical recipe.
While this drink can be made with any gin (and indeed, writing this, I am sipping one made with Bombay Sapphire, as that is the only gin I currently have in the house), Tanqueray has that certain je ne sais quois, I suppose a kind of unflavored purity, that really mixes well with tonic.

Gin is a colourless alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation and distillation of unmalted grain.
In this it is similar to vodka, the main difference being that while vodka is generally left neutral in flavour, gin is flavoured by infusing the spirit with certain berries and spices.
Gin is used as an ingredient in a number of cocktails, the most famous of which is the Martini.

 Gin
Gin is a distilled spirit, made from grain and flavored with juniper berries along with other botanicals.
While these "other botanicals" can vary from one distillery to another, the usual suspects are anise, bitter almonds, cardamon, caraway, cassia bark, calamus, cocoa nibs, lemon peel, licorice, orange peel, and orris root.
Unlike Whiskey, which is also made from grains, gin is not aged, and it is ready to drink as soon as distillation and flavoring is complete.

Wine: Dutch Gin and Genever, on StarChefs   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-19)
Both countries eventually turned to a dry version of the spirit (For many years gin was sweetened, and I can only imagine what the hangover must have been like.), but the Dutch never really became interested in mixing their gin, and even today prefer genever chilled and neat (and filled to the brim).
Nevertheless, its flexibility makes Damrak a great gin to keep in the bar at home: it works well in cocktails, but is still interesting enough to pour in a glass and enjoy neat when you don’t want to bother with mixing.
This gin is made for enjoying neat; although it retains its character in a martini or with simple mixers like tonic water, it generally loses some of its complexity in cocktails.
