Sound recording - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Magnetic tape recording as we know it today was developed in Germany during the late 1930s by the C.
Development of magnetic tape recorders in the late 1940s and early 1950s is associated with the Brush Development Company and its licensee, Ampex; the equally important development of magnetic tape media itself was led by Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing corporation (now known as 3M).
The typical professional tape recorder of the early 1950s used ¼" wide tape on 10½" reels, with a capacity of 2400 feet (731.5 metres).

 Music Concrete
Music concrete was recorded directly to tape with real (concrete) sounds, while musique abstraite was the traditional way of composing by writing down the score to be played later.
Reversing the reels of recorded material and playing the tape backwards can be used to create reverse reverbs, attacks, etc. Recording the reversed track to another tape deck is the easiest way, although bouncing the reversed track to an empty track on a multi track can be done.
Pink Floyd made the use of tape loops the basis of Dark Side of the Moon (like the Beatles albums, recorded at Abbey Road).

Unfortunately, the Theremin is not present on this album, and it suffers in comparison to the former albums due to that fact.
The album is worthwhile for the cover front alone, with two fishbowl-helmeted astronauts holding space cocktails amidst three tinted space beauties on a misty planet.
As with most Rugolo albums, the music on these albums is masterfully arranged in a pleasantly offbeat manner, and the orchestra consists of some of the best West Coast jazz musicians of the period.

Dungen: Ta Det Lugnt (2004): Reviews
This is the third album of psychedelic-rock tunes from Swedish multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Gustav Ejstes.
The aural face of this album is frighteningly flawless: a technical perfection that only lends to the mythic proportions of the songs, behemoths so pregnant with ideas and so rich in sound that they seem to stretch for miles.
With the sonic reach of Pink Floyd and convincing, explosive pop in the vein of Rogue Wave and the Apples in Stereo, "Ta Det Lugnt" is thick with variety.

It is a concept album, which seems to be trendy all of a sudden.
Trying to describe this album in terms of sound is difficult--think of a band with the vocal harmonies of early REM, the atmospherics of Pink Floyd or Radiohead, and the metallic sound of 70's era King Crimson or Tool.
As far as the album itself is concerned...well, you have to hear it to believe it.

Rock It Old School - FAQ
About 2000 of the tapes were made, but unfortunately all of them were mastered incorrectly and they played too fast (with an upward pitch shift), so they weren't distributed very far.
This would seem to be a planned replacement for the mis-produced Pink Tape, but perhaps after hearing the quality or finding Tyler and wanting the sound to be more accurate, they scrapped it.
They also corrected an error on the CD itself, in which the original CD (which mimicked the look of the gordon ball) the printers mistook the white stripe of the ball to mean transparent, so the white stripe on the original press is silver (the color of the disc).

Pink Floyd : The Dark Side of the Moon - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren't that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd's slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance.
But what gives the album true power is the subtly textured music, which evolves from ponderous, neo-psychedelic art rock to jazz fusion and blues-rock before turning back to psychedelia.
Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.

The second album Green Man is song based and has shorter tracks, the band maintened it's heavy sound but softens it on the second side (of the original LP) with strong influences of Procol Harum and the Beatles.
The album's almost entirely acoustic music draws heavily from classical and jazz, but unlike the dark dissonance of the likes of Univers Zero, this is melodic and accessible music that still bristles with intricate counterpoint and harmonic sophistication.
After the album was finished, Vedres left the band to become a concert pianist, though he would return to the world of prog a few years later with Townscream.

After the series was mercifully canceled, the Pink Ladies went back to Japan, and Jeff Altman went on to host the last few seasons of 'Solid Gold'.

Prindle Record Reviews - The Beatles
The album issue does matter and there's nothing snobby about that, the british releases were the way they were intended by the band itself, and that's why they should count.
Some people forget that the band were releasing 2+ albums a year, and that doesn't include the endless stream of singles, live performances, interviews, and trips halfway around the world to get it all done.
This album makes clear to you that you just can't top these guys, but with what it does to the previous and the next albums from the US catalogue, it's a love-hate relationship, the one I have with this here ablum.

Durst Says Sex Tape Unrelated to Paris - Feb 26, 2005 - E! Online News   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
In the grand tradition of Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson, the Limp Bizkit frontman's romp with an anonymous woman has been on the Web since late Tuesday for anyone's viewing pleasure...or displeasure, as several disappointed female fans have been dishing on message boards ("poor, poor man" mused one fan on LimpBizkit.com).
Schmidt says the T-Mobile Terrorist is actually a seven-person group of hackers "up and down the West Coast." Although Schmidt was working with them to release the tape, which they apparently obtained from Durst's laptop (perhaps from Durst's repairman suspect), a deal was not reached between the parties.
Meanwhile, Durst, who's no stranger to sex scandals (see his he-said-she-said battle with Britney Spears), is trying to focus on a new LB album.

Early Out Hud singles came with optimistic titles like "Emperor Selassie's Morning Wood" (compiled on the Troubleman Mix Tape) and "First Single of the New Millennium," but S.T.R.E.E.T., like its predecessors, subverts such kinky Pollyanna with an alluring sense of entitled ennui.
