 PINK-HEADED DUCK - Indian Wildlife
Now the area once called home by the Pink-headed Duck is one of the most densely populated areas on earth, and subsequently the Pink-headed Duck vanished slowly away.
Head, sides of neck, and hind neck pale rosy pink; tuft of bright pink on head; throat brown; rest of body mainly glossy dark brown (paler beneath).
Its bill, head and neck are suffused with bright pink, but the pink-coloured area is not sharply demarcated from the rest of the body which is dull brown.

 Ducks
Ducks are found throughout the world from the Arctic regions to South America, Africa, and Australia.
Ducks' webbed feet are able to withstand icy waters because blood is shunted away from them during extreme cold.
Ducks are classified in various ways by scientists, but a common grouping is based on habits and food.

 Lincoln's Doctor's Dog's Book Reviews
My passion for travel books was well-served by one of my all-time faves, The Search for the Pink-Headed Duck by Rory Nugent.
The duck, which may exist, is symbolic of Nugent's quest through India, into the Himalayas and down the Brahmaputra river.
I felt there were equal parts of excitement, learning, political set-backs, charm and wit; Duck is awesome and yet peaceful, memorable, and leaves you with a warm glow.

 Anser brachyrhynchus
The head and neck are so dark they look almost black from a distance, contrasting with a pale chest which looks pinkish-buff - a pink chested goose perhaps.
It wouldn't be sensible to identify a Pink-footed Goose by its pink feet since Greylags also have pink legs and juvenile Pink-feet have dull orange legs.
Instead you should notice that it has a relatively short neck, small head and stubby bill with pink and black markings.

(4/4/2001) At Least 7 of India's 78 Endangered Bird Species Face Extinction Within 10 Years; Pink-headed Duck Already Feared Extinct.
The critical list of endangered species includes the pink-headed duck, which is feared already extinct as it was not traced by BNHS expeditions, the forest owlet Athene belwitti, Jerdon's courser, Himalayan quail, Siberian crane, the white-rumped vulture and the long-billed vulture.
At least seven of the 78 species of birds on verge of extinction in India may not exist in the coming decade if immediate remedial measures are not taken, according to a study conducted by ornithologists at Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS).

 (Common Name Here)
Unfortunatly this information has not been totally confirmed and the most efficiant answer would be that the Pink-headed Duck was totally extinct around the year of 1944, do to the developement of agriculture and excessive hunting.
Although it is said that there may be few of the species existing in remote areas, specifically Burma, India and Tibet.

 PINK FLAMINGO
In Kazakstan, the white-headed duck nests in the northern part of the territory, preferring vast, deep lakes full of aquatic plants.
The pink flamingo nests in three areas in Kazakstan.
Additional protected habitat areas should be created along the lower reaches of the Torgai River in Central Kazakstan and at nesting sites on the northeastern coast of the Caspian Sea.

 Weblog: All entries for 2001 (Mon, 31 Dec 2001) - epiphyte.ca
I just finished reading "The Search for the Pink Headed Duck", by Rory Nugent (which is unfortunately out of print now), about his search for the duck in India, mostly Assam.
About a month ago I moved out of my downtown apartment to a farmhouse in Saanichton, shared with 4 people, two cats, and two ducks.
Ed is in town for the holidays, which (in addition to the holiday season) seems to have prompted me to be more social than usual :-) I think I've had dinner with others every night for more than a week (and lots of lunches too).

 Amazon.com: Books: When Agnes Caws
In When Agnes Caws, you can learn about different birds you never heard of (like the Pink headed Duck) before and how they sound.
Young readers will love the story of a can-do talented 8-year-old, as well as the endpapers that show a variety of bird species from the blue-footed booby to the now extinct pink-headed duck.
As the media flocks around the child wonder, the World Bird Society votes to send 8-year-old Agnes and her mother to the far-off slopes of the Himalayan Mountains to try to lure (and therefore officially spot) the elusive pink-headed duck.

 Pink-eared Duck
heir large bills and markings which are Zebra-like, coupled with small pink ear patches make them most distinctive in appearance.
Even now it is only actually successfully bred by a handful of breeders.
It is found in the Wild, particularly in New South Wales where they are protected and in Central Australia.
