  Pinturicchio - LoveToKnow 1911
PINTURICCHIO (1454-1513), Italian painter, whose full name was Bernardino, Di Betti, the son Of a citizen of Perugia, Benedetto or Betto di Biagio, was one of a very important group who inherited the artistic traditions and developed the style of the older Perugian painters, such as Bonfigli and Fiorenzo di Lorenzo.
The earliest of these is an altarpiece of the "Adoration of the Shepherds," in the first chapel (from the west) on the south, built by Cardinal Domenico della Rovere; a portrait of the cardinal is introduced as the foremost of the kneeling shepherds.
Pinturicchio married Grania di Niccolo, and had by her two sons and four daughters; there is probably no truth in the story of his being starved by his wife during his last illness.

Enlightening, even as a means of attribution, is the comparison between the works of Pinturicchio, humiliating the open space of Raffaello’s drawing by over-planning the rugged, walled-city in the background.
It is impossible that the drawing is a copy of the fresco because of the many differences in structure and composition, nor was it drawn by Pinturicchio as some scholars believed, refusing Vasari’s opinion that Raphael had given his friend “ the sketches and cartoons” for the fresco in Siena.
