It will be recalled that on December 19, 2003, a massive landslides and floodings spawned by several days of continuous heavy downpour hit Southern Leyte leaving a total of 154 people dead and rendering either totally homeless or severely affected a total of 1,029 families.
Worst hit were the towns of San Francisco, San Ricardo and Liloan and a part of Maasin City and Pintuyan town where a total of 227 houses were totally destroyed and 338 partially damaged.
