  Pinus flexilis description
flexilis does occur at one location in Mexico, 1600 km beyond its southernmost occurrence in the United States.
Final determination of this population's status, along with hard evidence on the interesting question of whether it may be a postglacial remnant population, probably awaits genetic studies.

flexilis seems to broom frequently, producing some fantastically dwarf selections, this one is nearly as tight as Pinus flexilis 'J. Michael' and a much better grower.
I have not seen the tree that these scions were taken from (Talon’s stock plant) but in general Pinus koraiensis 'Oculus Draconis' does not show strong variegation especially when young, conifer collectors still lust after it however, always hoping it will throw a strongly variegated shoot in the manner of Pinus densiflora 'Red OD Burke'.

 Pinus flexilis James
Limber pine (Pinus flexilis), also known as white pine or Rocky Mountain white pine, is a long-lived, slow-growing tree of small to medium size.
Although zones of intergradation between limber pine and southwestern white pine are found in north central Arizona and north central New Mexico (36), no true hybrid populations of limber pine have been recorded.

Paternity and gene dispersal in limber pine (Pinus flexilis James)
Paternity and gene dispersal in limber pine (Pinus flexilis James)
We used allozyme loci for a paternity analysis of 518 seeds produced in an isolated population of limber pine located in north-eastern Colorado, U.S.A., separated by 2 km from the nearest conspecific trees and nearly 100 km from populations in the Rocky Mountains.
The observed allozyme differences and surprisingly low estimates of among-subpopulation gene flow are ascribed to a probable restriction of gene dispersal by seeds.
