  Piper Cherokee - PA-28
The first Cherokee took to the air in 1960 as Piper explored its low wing all metal aircraft series but it was not until 1963 that it began introducing these birds to the public for sale.
Piper did not produce a Cherokee to compete with the Cessna 182 but instead had the Comanche which was faster and had the added technological leap of retractable gear.
Of all Cherokees the most popular were the 140 series of which there were many different models and the 180 which was Piper's standard sedan of the air.

  Piper Cherokee
The Cherokee is the common name for the Piper's PA-28 family of aircraft models, which received its type certificate from the FAA in 1960 and is still under production by The New Piper Aircraft Company today.
The Cherokee is an all-metal, unpressurized, four-seat, single-engine, piston-powered plane with low wings and tricycle (nosewheel) gear; its main competitors have been the Cessna 172 and the Beechcraft Musketeer[?].
Piper has created many variations on the Cherokee by installing engines ranging from 140 to 235 horsepower, fixed or retractable landing gear, fixed-pitch or constant-speed propellers, and even turbo-charging.
