The New Piper Aircraft, Inc., is a manufacturer of general aviation aircraft, located in Vero Beach, Florida.
Founded as the Taylor Aircraft Company during the 1920's by the Taylor brothers, W. Piper reorganized it as the Piper Aircraft Corporation in 1937, after the Taylor brothers had gone on to other things.
Piper produced the Piper model J-3 Cub, a two seater, 65 horsepower (48 kW) high-wing, single-engine aircraft which was commonly known as the Piper Cub.

When Piper bought the plans of the Stinson department of the Vultee aircraft corporation in the year 1948, one of the suggested designs was the "twin Stinson", which should be a change of the popular model Stinson "108".
Piper improved the PA-23 Apache in the year 1960 by 250 HP strong Lycoming engines, a new instrumenting, different changes in the design, which increased the power, and it became a new name, the "Aztec".
Finally Piper built still another version with turbo-charged engines, these has the advantage that they are still able to hold their flight performances even at higher altitudes.

 Piper Cherokee
The Cherokee is the common name for the Piper's PA-28 family of aircraft models, which received its type certificate from the FAA in 1960 and is still under production by The New Piper Aircraft Company today.
The Cherokee is an all-metal, unpressurized, four-seat, single-engine, piston-powered plane with low wings and tricycle (nosewheel) gear; its main competitors have been the Cessna 172 and the Beechcraft Musketeer.
Piper has created many variations on the Cherokee by installing engines ranging from 140 to 235 horsepower (105 to 175 kW), fixed or retractable landing gear, fixed-pitch or constant-speed propellers, and even turbo-charging.

Upon issuing this AD, the FAA believed that Piper PA 28 and PA32 series airplanes with aged oil cooler hose assemblies mounted both in front and in the rear of the engine were in danger of rupture, which would cause rapid loss of engine oil.
For those Piper PA28 and PA 32 airplanes with oil coolers mounted in a location other than at or aft of the rear of the engine that have accumulated 8 years or 100 hours time in service (TIS) on the oil cooler hose assembly, inspect prior to further flight.
For those PA28 and PA32 series airplanes with oil coolers mounted in a location other than at or aft of the rear of the engine, within the next 100 hours TIS, accomplish the requirements specified in section (a)(2) of AD 95-26-13.

The pilot and five passengers departed from Stewart, British Columbia, in a Piper PA-32 Cherokee aircraft for a sightseeing flight over the glaciers near the town.
Air Navigation Order Series VIII, No. 2, the Aircraft Journey Logbook Order, requires that certain information, including date, time up and time down, air time, flight time, and point of departure and destination, be recorded for each flight in the aircraft journey log-book.
The Piper PA-32 Aircraft Owner's Handbook performance chart indicates that the accident aircraft should have been capable of climbing at about 600 feet per minute at a 6,500-foot density altitude.

The Cherokee Six first flew in December 1963 as a significantly modified six-seat development of Piper's PA-28 Cherokee series.
In addition to being a simple, easy-to-fly airplane with excellent performance characteristics, the Six is unbeatable in its class as an airplane with excellent payload.
We are looking at upgrading both the panel and the autopilot with possibly a Garmin 430 GPS and Garmin transponder and perhaps an STEC-55 autopilot.

That's because skydiver Andy Judy used one of them up on Saturday when he attempted a jump from a Cessna 182 at the Pittsburgh Skydiving Center in Dunbar, Pa. Judy was one of four skydivers attempting a group jump when he got caught under the Cessna.

Weather data indicated a series of trowals were moving eastward across northern British Columbia and the southern Yukon.
The ANO states that when an aircraft is flown at or above 700 feet vertically from ground or water, the flight visibility shall be not less than one mile, and the distance of an aircraft from cloud shall be not less than 500 feet vertically and 2,000 feet horizontally.
