		The deception was successful, and she threaded her way through the fishermen at flank speed, but was unable to locate the convoy.
		With the decimated Japanese merchant marine hugging its own coast, Piranha was frequently frustrated by shallow water and omnipresent escorts in her attacks.

		Task Group 17.16 consisting of the submarines USS Guardfish (SS-217), USS Piranha (SS-389) and USS Thresher (SS-200) continues their attacks against Japanese shipping west of the Philippines by sinking a freighter and a cargo ship.
		The US freighter SS E.A. Bryan explodes at the ammunition depot at Port Chicago, California; another freighter, SS Quinalt Victory, which is adjacent to the Bryan, is also destroyed.
		Survivors refuse to return to work and many are convicted of mutiny.

	USS Pampanito - The Sixth War Patrol
		The storm tapered off as Pampanito arrived in Saipan on April 5th for fuel.
		On the way to Hawaii, Pampanito joined a wolf pack called "Bennet's Blazers," made up of USS Sea Owl (SS-405), USS Piranha (SS-389), USS Puffer (SS-268), and USS Thresher (SS-200).
		She hunted with them for a week before continuing to Pearl Harbor.

		During her second patrol USS Apogon claimed to have sunk a further 2 enemy ships although neither of these were credited to her in official reports.
		When USS Apogon was on her fourth patrol, together with fellow submarines USS Guardfish (SS-217), USS Thresher (SS-200), and USS Piranha (SS-389), a nine-ship Japanese convoy with approximately six escorts was sighted.
		The leading Japanese ship apparently spotted the wake of Apogon’s periscope and turned to ram the submarine.
