This whole tour seemed pointless so I decided to go back to the boats and go to Aegina, but when I got there the boats had just left and my only choice was to go to Salamina in an hour.
Few city skylines are dominated by a single building the way this dominates Pireaus and while one might think that it symbolizes prosperity and the economic future of the city, in truth the symbolism goes much deeper and is a little sadder.

You would not want to swim or wade in it since the percent of water versus other substances is a little low, but at one time it was a real river that emptied into the Faliron Delta where the big Olympic indoor stadium is now.
But before you know it we are once again passing between the tankers and freighters and into the harbor of Pireaus where dusk is setting and the big ferries to Crete, and Lesvos are getting ready to sail.
Returning to Pireaus I prefer to have a taxi waiting for me. Usually I am beat or I don't want to deal with the chaos, and $30 for a transfer from my pal George Kokkotos the Famous Taxi driver is a small fee to pay to avoid it.

The placement represents 3.9 pct of Pireaus Bank's outstanding share capital and was part of ING's and Pireaus' agreement to unwind their cross-shareholdings.
Pireaus Bank will also sell its 3.35 mln certificates for ING shares on Euronext Amsterdam and said it expects to book a capital gain of 130 mln eur its first half-year results.
