The people were quite hospitable to the (The Romance language spoken in most of Spain and the countries colonized by Spain) Spanish when they first arrived, which resulted in the Spanish giving the area the name Socorro which means aid or comfort.
The Piro became more heavily involved with the newcomers than did most other Pueblos, and in the (additional info and facts about Pueblo Revolt) Pueblo Revolt of 1680 they fled with the Spanish, being no longer to make it on their own.
Currently there is a " (The site of an archeological exploration) dig" which is actively pursued annually in June and July, in a location near (additional info and facts about Luis Lopez) Luis Lopez, five miles south of present-day Socorro.
