In September, 1844, William wrote again to John of his frustration in getting his women to move: "My women are all in a bad humor and when I brought home your letter and read it, the wife and her mamma came out for staying where we were, that there was no other country like this.
The house that William had constructed for his family on Section 22 in Pittsfield Township was built by a man named Henry Stuck for about $700.

In 1824, the first purchase of federal land in what would later become Pittsfield Township was made by Geo.
This name was retained until March 22, 1839 when it was changed to "Pittsfield Township" by act of the Michigan State Legislature.
One hundred and thirty-three years later (1972) the residents of Pittsfield Township voted to become a charter township and the name was changed once more to "Pittsfield Charter Township".

The 4 bars in Pittsfield filled with not only circus members but with lumbers, oil men and many that came to watch the show.

Margaret Ross, M.S.L.S., is librarian at McNees, Wallace and Nurick in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
She was previously head librarian at the Ellwood City Area Public Library, Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, where she was responsible for the library's innovative program whereby area funeral directors ask friends and relatives of the deceased to donate memorial books to the library instead of sending flowers.
This award recognizes "an individual in Pennsylvania who has made a notable contribution to the field of school librarians." After spending 30 years in the Penn Hills (Pennsylvania) School District libraries, she has begun a second career as librarian at the Kiski (Pennsylvania) School.
