		The new hall will be built on the Place des Arts site and is expected to have better acoustics and opportunities for the orchestra to expand its audience, with a seating capacity of between 1,800 to 2,200, the report says.

		While the planning for a major concert hall in Montreal began in the mid-fifties, it wasn't until September 23rd, 1963 that the Place-des-Arts was officially inaugurated with a performance in the Grande Salle (later to become the Salle Wilfrid Pelletier in 1966) by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mister Pelletier himself.
		By the mid-nineties, Place-des-Arts had been endowed with two more theatres including the Studio Theatre (a small concert hall focusing primarily on up-and-coming francophone artists) and the Cinquieme Salle.
		Situated adjacent to the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Arts, the Place-des-Arts complex covers a total expanse of 100,000 square feet including a spectacular outdoor plaza complete with fountains and an ornamental pool.
