Also local/mid-range places but once you start getting above that (not only starred places - also Conran-type destination places) there seems to be a lot of goats-cheese but very little creativity.
The best places that come to mind would be the veggie choices at the more seasonal or Cal/Ital places such as River Cafe, Clarkes, Leiths.
Paris is poorer (except for the wonderful places in the Latin quarter) and forget Germany, you have more chance of finding a smiling face.

Like Beckton (which at least has the DLR), it is one of the few places in London where people on ordinary incomes just might be able to afford to buy a home.
Having said that, it's one of the few places in London in which £200,000 will get a house of some sort.
Seeing that Grade D Nurses only get £21k-£23k in Inner London, and newly qualified teachers a little less, this still is expensive enough to pretty much stuff first time buyers.
