Placetas is a city in the Villa Clara Province in the center of Cuba, with a population of 42,000.
Placetas is not only a city but also a Municipality ("Municipio" in spanish).
The main catholic church in the town is called "San Atanasio de Placetas".

At the Hermanos Almeijeiras mill outside Placetas, where all of the three local mills were shut down, workers are resigned to planting vegetables.
In the railway yard that once bustled with steam locomotives shunting cars loaded with sugar cane from the fields to the mill, there is now a neatly planted garden with rows of lettuces, cabbages, carrots, beets, radishes, tomatoes and garlic.

My Atlas de Cuba puts it to the south west of Placeta and north of Baez in Villa Clara an indicates that it has a population of between 1000 and 3000 people - though it's an old atlas [ 1978 ] so I guess that might be a bit inaccurate now.

Placetas.- President Silvano Cada of the Placetas Defense Committee of the Revolution (CDR) on Jan. 21 threatened Carlos Campos Moya, delegate of the Democratic Action Movement that if he continued to speak against the Cuban government he would be "sanctioned," i.e., jailed or fined or both.
This was not the first threat Campos has received - the others were primarily anonymous - but it was the first time he was threatened by a CDR official.
