		Placetas is not only a city but also a Municipality ("Municipio" in spanish).
		The main catholic church in the town is called "San Atanasio de Placetas".

		At the Hermanos Almeijeiras mill outside Placetas, where all of the three local mills were shut down, workers are resigned to planting vegetables.
		In the railway yard that once bustled with steam locomotives shunting cars loaded with sugar cane from the fields to the mill, there is now a neatly planted garden with rows of lettuces, cabbages, carrots, beets, radishes, tomatoes and garlic.

		My Atlas de Cuba puts it to the south west of Placeta and north of Baez in Villa Clara an indicates that it has a population of between 1000 and 3000 people - though it's an old atlas [ 1978 ] so I guess that might be a bit inaccurate now.
		For various reasons the population living there was transferred towards El Ciego, and later to Guaracabulla from where in 1869, due to the war, many inhabitants were transferred to a place known as Las Placetas, where a fort had been constructed to protect the population from attacks by independence fighters.

		As I stood in the Placetas hospital ICU surrounded by very sick patients resting comfortably in modern beds with a variety of suction machines, pumps, moniters and other paraphenalia of a modern ICU I asked the ICU director what difference the new equipment was making.
		Kim Joiner a Canadian laproscopic nurse and Ross Joiner her anaesthetist husband rounded out the team and insured the Cuban nurses and anaesthetists were well oriented to the demands of the new proceedures.
		In the Placetas hospital if you have a cardiac arrest during surgury you just die as up to now they have not had defibrillators(the machines that shock stopped hearts into action) We were given 25 portable moniter defibrillators by the ambulance service of Thunder Bay District.

		Placetas.- President Silvano Cada of the Placetas Defense Committee of the Revolution (CDR) on Jan. 21 threatened Carlos Campos Moya, delegate of the Democratic Action Movement that if he continued to speak against the Cuban government he would be "sanctioned," i.e., jailed or fined or both.
		This was not the first threat Campos has received - the others were primarily anonymous - but it was the first time he was threatened by a CDR official.
