	Torquay United F.C. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		United played in the Third Division South, and their first match on 27th August 1927 was against Exeter City at Plainmoor.
		At the end of the 1984/85 season Torquay United finished bottom of Division Four and had to apply for re-election to stay in the Football League for the first time since their inaugural year in the league, 1927-28, luckily they were re-elected.
		David Webb came to Plainmoor in 1984 and prompted a few cosmetic changes to the terracing.

		The site at Plainmoor, which is in fact located within a stones throw of the seafront in the beautiful little village suburb of Babbacombe, was purchased by the Council from the Cary Estate for a healthy sum of £5,000.

	Torquay United Football
		The original Torquay United Association Football Club was founded in 1899 by a group of school leavers and played its first friendly match against an Upton Cricket Club eleven in a farmer’s field at the top of Penny’s Hill, on the Teignmouth Road.
		The Plainmoor site did exist, but it was the home of the rugby club, and when they vacated in 1904, Ellacombe moved in.
		After the end of the First World War there was pressure for Torquay Town and Babbacombe to merge, which they did in 1921 and adopted their present name, Torquay United.

	Torquay United Fan's Hall Of Fame
		That was the season of his famous brace against Spurs in the 3-3 draw at Plainmoor.
		There were frequent rumours of Stubbs going to bigger clubs and he did reject a move to Blackpool, but he was happy in Torbay and married a local bookmaker's daughter.
		1968-1969 was Robin's last season in his first spell at Plainmoor and again, he led scorers with 19 league and cup goals.

	Archie Bayes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Archie Bayes joined Torquay United from Ilford while Torquay were still a non-league club.
		He remained at Plainmoor as Torquay progressed into the football league, but missed out on playing in Torquay's first ever game in the football league after an injury in training, Laurie Millsom taking his place.
		He soon regained his place in the first team, making his league debut on the 7th of September 1927 in a 1-0 defeat at home to Millwall.

		The first time I went to Plainmoor, the coaches just dropped us off in the middle of the road and no-one knew where to go and a local helped us by pointing out the ground was down as dodgy alley.
		Overall a trip to Plainmoor isn't bad, but it isn't particully good either.
		I could think of far nicer grounds I'd rather spend 7 hours on a Saturday trying to get to, I'd gladly travel the extra hour or so just to go to Plymouth instead of Torquay.
