Polish plait - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Polish plait is typically a (sometimes large) head of hair, made of a hard impenetrable mass of keratin fibers permanently cemented together with dried pus, blood, old lice egg-casings and dirt.
A growing plait was supposed to take the illness "out" of the body, and therefore it was rarely cut off; in addition, the belief that a cut-off plait could avenge itself and bring an even greater illness discouraged some from attacking it.
Plaits were even categorized in a quite sophisticated way; there were plaits "male" and "female", "inner" and "outer", "noble" and "fake", "proper" and "parasitical".

It's fast and accurate especially when braided in 16 or higher plait (the higher the number of strands generally indicates greater accuracy) the drawback is that when the cracker wears down to the braided leather it has to be replaced ($20) but that shouldn't happen for 2-5yrs depending on usage.
Plait describes the number of strands plaited together to form the outermost layer of the whip.
On wellbuilt whips the core may be the lead filled leather shotbagof a snakewhip, or the 4 or 6 plait miniwhip plaited over a spring steel, cane or fiberglass handle of a bullwhip or the narrow tightly rolled and tapered kangaroo or redhide core of a stock whip.
