Topic: Plan of Salvation

In the News (Sun 12 Oct 08)

  God's Plan of Salvation
Salvation is granted to those who place their faith in Jesus Christ alone rather than in their own merits.
The doctrine of salvation by faith alone is sometimes misconstrued as permission to live as one pleases with a guarantee of heaven as long as one holds to a mental belief in Christ.
However, salvation is not a matter of performing an outward religious act but rather a matter of inward repentance for sin and receiving by faith God's forgiveness and gift of eternal life.

The Plan of Salvation, Negatively Viewed
Hence, the expression "plan of salvation" is a scriptural concept.
One reason we have so many divergent "plans of salvation" is because people are looking to subjectivism (their personal feelings) and not objectively considering the matter (teaching of the Bible).
While the plan of salvation appeals to the mind of man, it is not cold intellectualism.

 GOD'S PLAN OF SALVATION
There are two aspects of the gospel plan of salvation: (1) God’s gracious provisions which make our salvation possible, and (2) the proper response on the part of man to those provisions.
In other words, the gospel plan of salvation involves acts on the part of God and on the part of man. Actions performed by God to make man’s salvation possible we call acts of grace; actions performed by man to make his salvation a reality are acts of faith.
The gospel plan of salvation is clearly taught in the New Testament.

Instead, the plan of salvation is rarely heard in some pulpits of the Churches of Christ.
In fact, a distinctive and forceful sermon on the plan of salvation, like those preached forty to fifty years ago, would be an unwelcome message in some pulpits.

Salvation by Grace by Loraine Boettner
Paul says concerning some who would base salvation on their own merits, that, “going about to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit themselves to the righteousness of God,” and were, therefore, not in the Church of Christ.
Time and again the Scriptures repeat the assertion that salvation is of grace, as if anticipating the difficulty which men would have in coming to the conclusion that they could not earn salvation by their own works.
Therefore when the Scriptures say that salvation is of grace we are to understand that it is through its whole process the work of God and that any truly meritorious works done by man are the result of the change which has already been wrought.

 GOD’S PLAN FOR SALVATION
The word “salvation” means deliverance or preservation and may be applied to material objects and physical or spiritual life.
In order for man to have salvation, the demand of a Holy God had to be satisfied, and, since man is a sinful creature, he did not qualify.

 The Plan of Salvation
Outside the church and its ordinances salvation is not supposed to be found; grace is communicated by and through the ministrations of the church, otherwise not.
If we can still speak of a plan of salvation on God's part, that plan must be reduced just to keeping the way of salvation open, that man, who is the master of his own destiny, (38) may meet with no hindrance when he chooses to walk in it.
It speaks of the Church as the "institute of salvation," or even as "the storehouse of salvation" with apparently complete unconsciousness that thus it is speaking of salvation as something which may be accumulated or stored for use as it may be needed.

Plan of Salvation -- We think life’s most important question is “Are you going to heaven when you die?” It is not a question of how good you are, whether you go to church, or how much money you give to charity.
The plan of salvation is right in the Bible.
Therefore, if you understand that you are a sinner, and you believe that Jesus Christ came as the one and only Redeemer of sin, then you understand the plan of salvation.

The Plan of Salvation by Benjamin B. Warfield   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
THE SUBJECT to which our attention is to be directed in this series of lectures is ordinarily spoken of as "The Plan of Salvation." Its more technical designation is, "The Order of Decrees." And this technical designation has the advantage over the more popular one, of more accurately defining the scope of the subject matter.
This is not commonly confined to the process of salvation itself but is generally made to include the entire course of the divine dealing with man which ends in his salvation.
This portion of the subject matter may, however, certainly with some propriety, be looked upon as rather of the nature of a presupposition, than as a substantive part of the subject matter itself; and no great harm will be done if we abide by the more popular designation.
