  Planctae
In Greek mythology, the Planctae ("wandering rocks") were a group of rocks, between which the sea was mercilessly violent.
The Argo (led by Jason) was the only ship to navigate them successfully (with divine help from Hera, Thetis and the Nereids).
Jason chose to brave the Planctae instead of Scylla and Charybdis.

 Strabo's Geography 3.2
Accordingly, one might reasonably suppose that Homer, because he heard about Tartessus, named the farthermost of the nether-regions Tartarus after Tartessis, with a slight alteration of letters; and that he also added a mythical element, thus conserving the creative quality of poetry.
Again, the poet modelled his "Planctae" after the "Cyaneae," always bringing in his myths from some historical fact or other.
For example, he tells a mythical story of certain rocks that are dangerous, just as they say the Cyaneae are (from which fact the Cyaneae are also called "Symplegades"), and this is the reason why he cited Jason's voyage through them.

The Odyssey, by Homer, Butler Tr.; FOOTNOTES Page 10
When Ulysses comes to take the route prescribed by Circe, he ought to pass either the Wanderers or some other difficulty of which we are not told, but he does not do so.
The Planctae, or Wanderers, merge into Scylla and Charybdis, and the alternative between them and something untold merges into the alternative whether Ulysses had better choose Scylla or Charybdis.
Yet from line 260, it seems we are to consider the Wanderers as having been passed by Ulysses; this appears even more plainly from xxiii.

He also devotes perceptive discussions to the negotiations between Medea, Jason, Arete, and Alcinous, to the Planctae episode,
Note furthermore that Argo is also a heavenly Sign; discussion of this fact would have supported C.'s case.
Though in the Planctae discussion I am not convinced by C.'s solution for Hera's notoriously problematic speech to Thetis in 4.783-90 (emending 4.486 te to ke seems inevitable).

The only ship to survive going past that hazard was Jason and the Argonauts, because he was helped by the goddess Hera.

For on the one hand are beetling crags, and against them roars the great wave of dark-eyed Amphitrite; the Planctae do the blessed gods call these.
Thereby not even winged things may pass, no, not the timorous doves that bear ambrosia to father Zeus, but the smooth rock ever snatches away one even of these, and the father sends in another to make up the tale.

The Planctae, or Wandering Rocks, were a group of craggy rocks through which the sea boomed and surged with uncontrolled fury; it is unclear why they were called "wandering." The Argo, favored by Hera and guided by Thetis and the Nereids, was the only ship to navigate them successfully.
The only alternative to passing through the Planctae was to pass between the twin hazards of Scylla and Charybdis.

Maps: The ARGONAUTS' Voyage, Greek Mythology Link.
Out in the Mediterranean, they sailed past the Stoechades Islands (now Hyères islands, off the southeast cost of the country called France) and Aethalia (now Elba), before reaching Aeaea, Circe's abode, located here in Italy, but otherwise considered as an island of doubtful location.
Having sailed past the SIRENS, the Wandering Rocks (Planctae), Scylla and Charybdis, the ARGONAUTS came to the land of the Phaeacians, generally identified with the island of Corcyra or Corfu.
After that, they came to the Lake Tritonis in the continent then called Libya but today called Africa.
