Rocannon's World - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A young woman named Semley takes a space voyage from her unnamed planet to a museum to reclaim a family heirloom.
The story has strong resemblances to heroic fantasy, as Semley's people include lords in castles with swords, and other races on her planet are much like fairies and gnomes.
Rocannon's World was republished in 1978 along with Planet of Exile and City of Illusions in a volume called Three Hainish Novels and in 1994 with the same novels in Worlds of Exile and Illusion.

What caught my ear this time was his remix of Broken Language (a collaboration with John B [yes, THAT John B: American Girls, Hey Mickey, Blandwagon Poos etc...]) the original (or John B's mix) of which appears on John's in:transit album (which I think is great btw, fuck all the "haters").
But Exile's mix of said track (are you following..?) was an awesome almost Hellfishesque drum'n'bass/hardcore-techno hybrid with a tweaked out almost "wobble" bassline.
I'm a sucker for "new jump-up" or clownstep as it's more commonly known, (in the vein of dj fresh and twisted individual) (when it's done "right") so this was right up my street.

Although it was kicked from the litter by accident, this planet’s involuntary exile may be a frequent fate for newborn worlds.
The clue is that large planets in these systems often have highly elliptical orbits." Giant worlds in egg-shaped orbits are, presumably, the objects that were left behind when a planetary fender-bender took place.

Douglas Barbour- Wholeness and Balance in the Hainish Novels of Ursula K. Le Guin
The essential unity of light and darkness is always implicit in the imagery, as in the description of the Foretelling: "Hours and seconds passed, the moonlight shone on the wrong wall, there was no moonlight only darkness, and in the center of all darkness Faxe: the Weaver: a woman, a woman dressed in light" (ยง5).
His culture's sanity-the awareness that balance must be sought where dark and light meet and mix, in the ambiguous center where simple-minded "we-they" solutions fail-emerges organically from its total context in the fictional world of the novel.
The people of the planet Hain originally "seeded" all the habitable worlds of this part of the galaxy, producing a humanoid universe that is single, expanding, and historically continuous but at the same time marvelous in its variety, for the conditions on each planet caused specific local mutations.

Planet of Exile, about 37,000 words long, is Le Guin's second novel (after Rocannon's World, reviewed earlier in this series).

For Gethen is inhabited by a society with a rich, ancient culture full of strange beauty and deadly intrigue - a society of people who are both male and female in one, and neither.
Sex came in 'season' and a person (I longed to be a real PERSON, not a mere woman!) would become (temporarily) male or female without being stuck there (unless SHE becomes pregnant; motherhood is interesting there, too.)
