Bi-convex lenses are the simplest magnifying lenses, and have a focal point and magnification factor that is dependent upon the curvature angle of the surfaces.
Convex lenses are primarily employed for focusing applications and for image magnification.
Curvature radii of the two convex surfaces for a bi-convex lens are indicated by fl arrows in Figure 3(a).

 Brush having plano-convex profile - Patent 5894847
The core is curved, the peak lines (207) are convex, and the first face (207.1) is substantially straight and parallel to the main axis (X--X).
Brushes are also known having the shape of a portion of a torus, these brushes being obtained by twisting the core of a cylindrical brush in an arc of a circle.
Such brushes are not very easy to handle: in fact if the user rotates the stem of such a brush about its axis between her fingers, for example in order to apply a product to the eyelashes, she must continually correct the distance between the brush and the eyelashes.

 Convex
A convex lens is a circular or spherical surface.
One with convex surfaces on both sides is known as bi-convex, or sometimes simply convex lens.
Because a convex lens deflects light rays towards the axis normal to its plane, known as the optical axis and hence converge them towards each other, it is known as a positive lens.

Preferably, the diopter value of the convex outer surface of the lens is between 0 and 1.0 so as to remove the lens from the domain of corrective lenses.
A secondary corrective lens can, however, be affixed to the planar inner surface of the lens for those divers who would otherwise require corrective lenses.

When viewing specimens through the eyepieces of a microscope, a real image is formed on the retina, but it is actually perceived by the observer to exist as a virtual image located approximately 10 inches (25 centimeters) in front of the eye.
Negative lens elements are the bi-concave (Figure 1(a)), plano-concave (Figure 1(b); with a single planar surface), and concave-meniscus (also termed a negative meniscus lens; Figure 1(c)), which also has concave and convex surfaces, but with the center of the lens being thinner than the edges.
Simple lenses having a symmetrical shape (bi-convex or bi-concave) have principal planes that are equally spaced with respect to each other and the lens surfaces.
