The Plasmatics were an American punk band, formed by Yale graduate and radical anti-artist Rod Swenson, around the late Wendy O. Williams.
Williams was arrested multiple times and was seriously beaten in Milwaukee by the Milwaukee police after being charged with public indecency.
Williams's and the Plasmatics' career spanned seven albums, several which were released as Wendy O. Williams solo albums.

It wasn’t long before the Plasmatics recorded their first album “New Hope For The Wretched.” In 1980 Hard to believe the quasi-metal noise of “Butcher Baby” and “Tight Black Pants” was produced by Jimmy Miller, who previously helmed albums by the Stones and Traffic.
Although audiences were appreciative (one Plasmatics fans seems thrilled to have an antenna from a smashed TV set rip his hand, according to a message board posting), police in the Midwest weren’t impressed.
Plasmatics material continues to be released and re-released to this day.

I think the Plasmatics revolutionized rock music in that we were the first band to combine elements of punk, heavy metal and hard core rock.
I am disappointed to say that, since the break up of the Plasmatics in 1983, I have not received any form of payment from the Plasmatics’ management or record companies, which released records on which I performed and which contained many songs I had written.
He felt that the name "Plasmatics" had a bad connotation and that the next album should just be called "Wendy Williams." I asked them where I fit in.

Founded by a porn film producer who fancied himself as the next Malcolm McLaren, the Plasmatics were fronted by sex film "star" Wendy O. Williams, a muscular, raspy-voiced "singer" who generally wore next to nothing onstage.
While Williams became something of a demi-celebrity in punk circles, especially after she was busted (and brutalized by police) in Milwaukee for "public indecency," the Plasmatics were mostly show and little substance, musically speaking.
In 1989, the Plasmatics reunited, but Williams essentially dropped out of sight in the early 1990s, and sadly, committed suicide in 1998 at the age of 48.

The Plasmatics, founded in 1978, rose to fame from sensational beginnings at CBGB's in New York City where Wendy and the band were known for fast aggressive music and on stage theatrics which included Wendy's regular chain-sawing of guitars and the detonation of speaker cabinets.
After inking a record deal with Stiff records they rapidly grew to large venues where the "queen of shock rock," as she came to be known, expanded the theatrical repertoire to include blowing up cars on stage and collapsing lighting trusses.

Be warned, however; this album is not representative of the Plasmatics later material (which would become more metal than thrash), and in fact is smarter and a lot more fun than anything they'd release subsequently.

I was the only person I knew of that liked (or at least would admit to liking) the Plasmatics at the time.

As I understand it, Wendy felt that she'd "peaked" in some way, that she'd achieved everything or whatever, and spoke in her suicide note of going to a place where there was "no self, only calm".
It was a cheap recording and didn't have the sound of any of the prior Plasmatic type songs.
Wendy and the plasmatics were what started it all for me! i was in 5th grade(82-83)she was my role model!
