ABOUT PLASTICENE PHYSICAL THEATER   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Plasticene is a research as well as performance organization.
Plasticene emphasizes exploration of the most plastic elements of theatre creation: the human body, objects, light and sound.
Plasticene looks to communicate human interaction and condition in new forms that are physical, visual, visceral, poetic, provocative, intelligent, and bravely experimental.

 Notebook
Plasticene (or earth clay) is patted or rolled flat, and the entire bottom of the box is covered with a layer about a half inch thick, on the surface of which the children can work their ideas out directly.
The plasticene can then be given a very thin coat of petroleum jelly; however, this is not absolutely necessary, as there is already oil in the plasticene mixture.
The plaster is poured onto the plasticene carving to a thickness of 1/2" to 3/4".

Plasticene won't stick to cling film very well, which is why it's easier to have the subject lying down.
However you finish the surface of the plasticene at this stage, it will be exactly reproduced in the final prosthetic, so take a bit of time to get it right.

Depending on the complexity of the sculpture, you may or may not have to perform a little 'surgery' to extract the sculpt from the mould, but careful work with a scalpel or sharp craft knife will ensure a neatly-fitting empty mould ready for casting.
Basically, the parts concerned should be embedded to about half their depth into some soft medium such as plasticene, uncured sculpey, or whatever suits your purpose.
Next, build a wall of plasticene or milliput around the embedded eobject(s) of a sufficient height to make sure the entire half-piece will be covered over when the resulting enclosure is filled with rubber.

When you freeze this plasticene, the elastic synthetic plastic polymer "traps" the oil inside it even more than usual (remember - plasticene = oil dissolved in solid) and hence it becomes solid.

Plasticene lives in fake psychedelic landscapes   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Plasticene's press release promotes the band by claiming that it is "too American to be British, and too British to be American," so it would be safe to say that Plasticene is not wanted anywhere for the sheer fact that the album is completely unoriginal.
The Beatles-esque lyrics are so blatant that it is almost shocking that the band thought it could get away with such genre-plagiarizing and hope for any type of music credibility.
Plasticene's souless, copycat lyrics are lost in a haze of tranquil dream-like sequences and Œ70s drug clichés.

With a new rhythm section and a new name, singer-songwriter-guitarists Rob Szabo (formerly of the Groove Daddies) and Steve Strongman have re-released the Marigold album with two new tracks (with the new line-up) and one track from their debut EP.
If you missed out the first time -- like pretty much the entire country -- this is a stunning collection of perfect pop sense, Sloan-esque harmonies and a few nods to Radiohead with their sonically spacious balladry and occasional prog flourish.
Like those two bands, Plasticene have stuffed their album with more single-worthy material than most modern rock bands can conjure in their entire career.

Metromix. Real power is low-tech in 'Perimeter'   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Although Plasticene prefers abstract themes to overt cultural references, "The Perimeter" is intended as a performance-meditation on how power is exerted on those who inhabit the area around its limits — think national borders, the edge of a prison camp, the boundary between Baghdad's Green Zone and the rest of that city.
It's partly because Plasticene's perennial strengths revolve around physical intensity and psychic vulnerability, not the more cerebral interest of how to reflect three-dimensional movement in sampled sound or on a two-dimensional screen.
Gopfert and her five-performer company of collaborators cite the notorious Stanford Prison Experiments of 1971 (in which fake student guards were turned into genuinely brutal oppressors) as a point of departure.

Water-based has to be tended during the sculpting process to prevent drying and cracking, but the finished mold does not have to be so scrupulously cleaned since the moisture leaving the neoprene can pass through any residual clay and into the plaster.
It is available in a variety of grades to suit personal preferences in terms of hardness and is considerably less messy to work with, but any traces of its oil which are left in the mold will form a moisture barrier and prevent the neoprene from curing properly in those spots.
If your sculpt is plasticene, be sure the mold has thoroughly cooled before trying to open it--the clay will have gone molten to some degree during the heating phase and may still be hot enough to hurt.
