Cumberland Plateau - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
At the Pottsville Escarpment, which is the transition from the Cumberland Plateau to the Bluegrass in the north and the Pennyrile in the south, there are many spectacular cliffs, gorges, rockhouses, natural bridges, and waterfalls.
The sedimentary rocks that compose both plateaus are of Mississippian and Pennsylvanian geological age, composed of near shore sediments washed westward from the original Appalachian Mountains.
Though the plateau is not composed of true mountains, and nowhere is very high, it has some of the most rugged terrain in the eastern United States, and locally is called mountains.

You can judge as band X as good, bad, or even better than band Y in terms of competence.
We cannot say that band X are better than band Y. In fact, all we can realistically say is, "I like band X more than band Y." The trouble starts if we then try to reason and apply logic (objective) to our tastes (subjective).
Beyond the plateau of objective competence, we enter a realm of different criteria for judging music.
