		Mike was not at all impressed with punk music, not least because it seriously dented his record sales (indeed, Virgin Records' signing of punk bands while failing to promote Mike's albums was to be the cause of a great rift between him and the record company).
		Mike said at one point that he felt that punk rock made fun of music, so perhaps Punkadiddle was Mike's idea of having music make fun of punk rock.
		An altered form of the album was released in the USA as 'Airborn', the difference being that Woodhenge was replaced by the track Guilty, a disco style tune based on the same note pattern as Incantations, which was released as a single at around the same time as that album.

	The Complete Mike Oldfield - Earth Moving
		If you forgive its lack of coherence as an album in the conventional sense then its sounds are some of the most different Mike has produced during his career, and the "feel" to some parts is so eerie and haunting that it is unbelievably touching.
		The album could be richer if the singles "Pictures in the dark" and "Shine" and also the B-sides "Legend" and "The Trap" were included on a remastered CD version that already carried the bombastic "When the Night's on Fire".
		This album is OK. On one side you've got an absolute masterpiece ("The Wind Chimes") and on the other one six pop songs with no real inspiration compared to Mike's previous pop works with the exception of "Islands" and "When the Night's on Fire" (personnally I prefer Maggie Reilly's voice to Anita Hegerland's).

		Child prodigy Mike Oldfield was out there playing folk clubs in a duo with his sister at the sprightly age of 10 or 11.
		Mike plays virtually all the instrumentation, anything that was laying around in the studio at the time, usually.

		The first Mike Oldfield album I heard was "Ommadawn" which I still rate highly today.
		With regard to Mike's cd singles, they seem to be spoiled by dance mixes of the same song which is a bit of a rip off.
		So Tubular Bells III is a wonderful album which continues Mike's rediscovered touch of genius which he found after leaving Virgin.

		Mike gets very close to Steve Reich here, specially for the sparse use of melodic percussion, flute and strings, and also in terms of compositional technics: the use of minimalistic cells which create the base and background of the music.
		In my opinion Mike reached a top with this work in terms of compositional ability and musical ambition (73 minutes of music), so he changed completly of musical direction to more easy and commercial works; a real pity.

		Yes, the performance is as always exemplary, but with Oldfield at the time beginning to wear out the path he was repeatedly walking, the need for strong compositions was even greater than on preceding albums.
		Initial copies of the album were pressed with “Sally” included, but when Richard Branson (Head of Virgin records) heard the song, he insisted that it be removed from the album.
		The second side of the LP gives the impression that Oldfield is running short of inspiration, even reverting to a rare cover version to fill the time.
