  Game Studies 0501: A survey method for assessing perceptions of a game by Davis, Steury, and Pagulayan
The playtest has several characteristics that are essential for obtaining quality, actionable feedback from consumers about their perceptions of a game’s key dimensions.
In addition to the standardized questions, the design of the playtest also gives the user researcher flexibility because he or she can add questions to assess dimensions of the game that are unique to the game being tested.
Playtests are not generally intended to serve as a test of the game’s “quality.” The tests focus on the first hour of gameplay, which we feel is critical.

Playtesting is the process of playing a new game design, over and over, in order to spot flaws and improve playability.
There is no excuse for failure to playtest a design thoroughly before putting it on the market [although you’ll hear a lot of such excuses from publishers, particularly software publishers]; it indicates either gross ignorance, total egotism, or an absolute lack of interest in giving the gamer their money’s worth.
The playtesters had a pretty good game worked out, but the designer never found out what it was… and the designer’s version was published and fell flat.

Playtests based off of the previous edition of SFB are a waste of your time, and ADB's, and ultimately, the player's.
Playtesting for this game (work on elements of new expansions, tests of proposed changes, balance checks) is managed on the BBS under the FandE section.
Playtest material is put up with the express purpose of soliciting reports and feedback on it to fix errors and make the products better.

Playtesting lets you know where you have gone wrong in a game; where the weaknesses lie and, above all, where it lacks clarity.
Some inventors, especially game companies, go so far as to pay marketing firms several thousand dollars to conduct what they call ‘focus groups’ with people who answer ads in the newspapers, are screened for certain demographic qualities and are then paid to bring their children or play a game themselves.
But there are more insidious ways of influencing playtesters that you should avoid, for example: defending any part of the game; getting excited if they get excited; handling or discussing your game with more care of pride than any other game that is being tested as a comparison.

 Federer racquet playtest
Having published both the specifications for Roger Federer's racquet and a photo comparison featuring his racquet and a retail version of the Wilson nSix-One Tour 90, I have been asked to do a playtest, presumably to see if hitting with his racquet reveals whether or not his frame is really "N-coded" with silicon dioxide nano-bits.
Thus, even though the type of customization done on Federer's racquet can only be done by someone with a high level of competence and ability in racquet fabrication, Federer is essentially playing with a modified version of the same racquet that is available at retail to the rest of us.
Thanks to Wilson Racquet Sports for supplying the strings and grips used in this playtest, Dave Bone of the USRSA for supplying the Federer version of the nSix-One Tour 90, Rick Golden for supplying the Pro Staff Midsize, and Kimo Tandaguen for supplying the Hyper Pro Staff Tour 90.

Playtesting the map is opening the map in its current state from UnrealEd.
It is useful to get an idea of scale, appearance, bot behaviour, etc. To playtest the map press the Play Level ("Joystick") button on the top Toolbar, press Ctrl-P or use Build → Play Level.
The only reliable way to prevent this is to not playtest from the editor, but open the map directly with UT (save it in the editor then run the saved file).

Because its much more difficult to playtest online, those groups are likely to break up or be unable to meet as often as they need to.

The advantage of Playtest reviews is mainly a better impression of how the system works: if there are any aspects of the game not covered by the rules, if the rules themselves slow down the session and the narrative, etc.

This was on a recent copy of Playtest 1, with a installation of the playtest 10-23-05 on top of it and I forgot to set Enablelogs to yes the first time it happened.
I hope it has no bugs but you've been a great playtester and by breaing it I mean where as when i play a few hundred turns and get no crashes, something you do has been able to uncover a bug or two and thereby bring it to our attention and make the platest better.
The 10-23-06 playtest has at least the AI factions more able to exdpand by war and cease fire when they are weaken by war.Next step is AI,s teaming up to block human player from exoanding to fast.

One of the things you have to do when writing scenarios for sale is to test them to check that the players have at least a slim chance of succeeding - in some cases a very slim chance.
Playing the same scenario a dozen times would probably bore most people to tears, not so for our head playtester Tim who takes a savage delight in putting poor unsuspecting gamers through hell, again, and again, and again....
