The video includes prisoners praising their new home for amenities such as cable television and better hot meals, as well as access to educational classes that are largely unavailable in California prisons.
At Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga (Fresno County), for example, orders from gang leaders -- referred to as shot-callers -- of two Latino gangs instructing members to fight each other immediately upon crossing paths has led the prison to keep every gang member locked in their cells for months.

At Pleasant Valley State Prison, inmates are housed dormitory-style on triple bunk beds in four gymnasiums because of a shortage of cells.
A Pleasant Valley spokesman denies there is an outbreak of Valley fever at the prison, saying there have been several cases of staph infections, which were traced to prisoners from Los Angeles County.
The state expects the average daily prison population to drop through parole by more than 5,000 by this summer and by nearly 15,000 at the end of the 2004-05 fiscal year.

Valley State Prison for Women reports that at about 2115 hours on Aug. 12, while inmate F was being processed for ASU placement, she battered an officer by striking the officer in the forehead with her fist.
Valley State Prison for Women (VSPW) reports that on Aug. 10, a representative from Assemblyman Greg Aghazarian’s office contacted VSPW to schedule a tour for three representatives of the State Assembly for Tuesday, Aug.15.

State corrections officials have transferred inmates at risk of Valley fever from Pleasant Valley State Prison after an investigation of an outbreak of the respiratory disease at the institution near Coalinga.
State health officials recommended in a report released this month that prisoners at high risk for complications from Valley fever be housed elsewhere.
Gil Chavez, chief of epidemiology for the state Department of Health Services, said the study of the Pleasant Valley outbreak — and recommendations for reducing infection among inmates — are applicable to other prisons in the area, such as the prison in Avenal about 15 miles from Pleasant Valley.

Prisoners have rights too, and one of the rights is to not be threatened, and harassed by the guards.

I called his mother in Virginia Va She said her last letter from Rocket was post marked Nov 15 2004 the same date as the last one i had gotton from him.
I called the prison again and a recorder talked to me. telling me all the Bulldogs and Hispanics are in lock down.

For 2005-06, the department is requesting (1) $1.3 million from the General Fund to construct a new prescreening facility at the wastewater treatment plant at Wasco State Prison and (2) $925,000 to install a bar screen to remove bulky debris for the wastewater treatment of Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga.
Accordingly, we recommend that the Wasco State Prison project be funded from the 1988 bond and the Pleasant Valley State Prison project be funded from the 1990 bond.
