This is because people are so comfortable in their social groups that they have no desire to branch out and meet new people by senior year.
People are tired of meeting new people, and are completely satisfied with knowing only the people in their own social groups.
I generally like meeting new people -or I used to at least, before I got here, where people are nice but not friendly.

 Splendid: Departments: The Essential Albums
Pleased to Meet Me was released in 1987, toward the end of the greedy Eighties when everyone was realizing that the wealth was only being distributed to a few people.
With Tim, they had almost tasted mainstream success, and yet with their fear of selling out (particularly, I believe, for Westerberg) they had managed to throw a spanner in their own works, and were on the downslope of their artistic unity.
According to articles and reviews, the band members' enmity towards one another was growing, and Westerberg was writing most of the tracks for Pleased to Meet Me, unlike Tim, which had been far more of a group effort.

Sire signed the band and they rewarded the label with Tim, which despite losing planned producer Alex Chilton upped the ante again with some of singer Paul Westerberg's best songs to date.
Off record, however, the band was only getting wilder, with drunken (and drugged) live antics and a distaste for the promotional merry-go-round sabotaging what was once seen as significant crossover potential.
The one that's actually best; the one we should lend first to a potential new fan; is Pleased to Meet Me.

When The Replacements released "Pleased To Meet Me" in 1987, it was their most mainstream album to date.
"Pleased To Meet Me" can also be seen as the milestone at which Paul Westerberg took control of The Replacements in his personal quest for stardom.
Some cite his namesake vices as reason for his dismissal, others his unwillingness to cooperate in the musical transformation that was rapidly taking hold of The Replacements.

Pleased to Meet Me is the third Replacements record in a row to feature Paul Westerberg's triple-threat songwriting.
And in "I Don't Know," he defines his stance -- "One foot in the door/the other one in the gutter" -- as the eternal pessimist who is paradoxically cocky at the same time.
This tension has been threatening to pull his songs apart at the seam ever since he asked a girl "How smart are you/How dumb am I?" then asked her to "Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime" on

Bob Stinson was kicked out of the band after "Tim", allegedly because he was unwilling to make the musical leap forward necessary for "Pleased to Meet Me".
With Stinson left the Replacements' hardcore roots, leaving behind the conflicting desires of Westerberg's wish to be a serious singer/songwriter and for the group to become either the Faces or Big Star.
That conflict is played out throughout "Pleased to Meet Me", and it isn't helped by the stultifyingly clean and detailed production by Jim Dickinson.

Each album (1985's Tim, 1987's Pleased to Meet Me, 1989's Don't Tell a Soul, and 1990's All Shook Down, the band's final release) is represented by four tracks, which seems like a decent enough idea, but omits some seriously essential songs from the band's catalog.
And the fact that Tim and Pleased to Meet Me are much stronger albums than Don't Tell a Soul and All Shook Down hasn't seemed to enter into consideration.
It's impossible to listen to the Pleased to Meet Me version of "Can't Hardly Wait," the best power pop song ever written, after hearing All For Nothing's remastered track.

The Replacements: Tim ---Ink Blot Magazine
Pleased to Meet Me was produced by Chilton's old producer, and while it toned down some of the band's anarchic tendencies, again the songs were up to the task.
From the early-life crisis of opening track "Hold My Life" to the pathetic barroom ballad "Here Comes a Regular", Tim captures the fears and disappointments of entering adulthood.
And, yeah it captures the joys too: there's love ("Kiss Me on the Bus") and there's music ("Left of the Dial").

The first album released after founding lead guitarist Bob Stinson's official departure, Pleased nevertheless retains plenty of the Mats' innate punky drive, albeit here more focused and tempered.
The Replacements' brand of brash, dirty rock & roll reachedits apex on PLEASED TO MEET ME. A stomping collection of blistering, no-bull compositions and performances, this album represents a wild, angry, and ultimately beautiful marriage of inspired songcraft and punk rock abandon.
The album's biggest hit, "Alex Chilton", is a swinging, stomping homage to the pop stylist to whom the Replacements were so deeply indebted, with plenty of the stadium-sized power-chords that comprise the groups less-fashionable influences (Kiss's "Black Diamond" was one of their better-known covers).

That conflict is played out throughout Pleased to Meet Me, and it isn't helped by the stultifying clean and detailed production by Jim Dickinson.
Chris Mars and Tommy Stinson are reigned in tighter than ever before, giving most of the songs a strangled, distanced feel which isn't helped by Dickinson's canned guitar sounds and the odd production flourishes, including the occasional sax and keyboard.
And that can only hurt a record like Pleased to Meet Me, which has stardom in its sights.
