In 298, Phila accompanied Demetrius when he set sail for Syria to marry their daughter, Stratonice (2), to Seleucus I. They stopped at Cilicia, in southern Asia Minor, which was ruled by Pleistarchus, a brother of Phila.
Pleistarchus was furious at the landing and further angered by any alliance with Seleucus, for Demetrius had been the common enemy of both Pleistarchus and Seleucus.
Phila went to Macedonia where her other brother, Cassander, was king to convince him not to side with Pleistarchus.
