		Diocese of Plock shared in the sufferings of the Catholic Church of Russia.
		Apollinaris Wnukowski (1904-08) were elevated to the Archdiocese of Mohileff; the present bishop is Anthony Julian Nowowiejski, consecrated 6 December, 1908.
		Plock was rebuilt after a fire in the years 1136-44, and thoroughly restored in 1903.

		Plock is situated in the northwestern outskirts of Masovian Voivodeship, on the borders of two macroregions: Plock Valley and Dobrzynskie Lakeland.
		Plock obtained municipal rights in 1237 but it existed before this as a fortified burg – even as early as 10th century.

		In the readjustment of ecclesiastical conditions in Poland Warsaw was raised to an archdiocese, by the Bull "Militantis ecclesiæ" of 12 March, 1817, and the other Russo-Polish dioceses were made suffragan to it by the Bull "Ex impensa nobis" of 30 June, 1818.
		Consequently Plock also was transferred from its metropolitan of Gnesen to Warsaw; at the same time five deaneries were taken from it, thereby reducing the diocese to its present size.

		Plock is one of the oldest cities in Poland.
		During the years of 1075 and 1138 A.D. the city of Plock was the actual capital of Poland, under the monarchal seat of Ledislaus Herman (Wladyslaw Herman) and his son, Boleslaus Wry-mouthed (Boleslaw Krzywousty).
		Their mortal remains are buried inside the sarcophagus in the Basilica of Plock, which was build between 1130 and 1144 by Bishop Aleksander of Malonne. Bishop Aleksander was the Bischop of Saint-Berthuin abbey in Malonne, Belgium (Thank you to François Barbieux of Melonne, Belgium for providing the last piece of information).

	Plock History
		One of the oldest settlements in Poland and the capital of Mazovia since the 11th century, it was the residence of kings between 1079 and 1138 and the first Mazovian town to get its municipal charter (in 1237).
		After WW II, Plock became a significant industrial center; a gigantic oil refinery and a petrochemical plant were built here which supply most of the nation's needs, but this altered the town's character and brought heavy pollution.
		Plock is not worth a special journey though it can be a convenient stopover if you are passing this way.
