The racial makeup of the county is 93.84% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 0.35% Native American, 4.54% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races.

Organizers have sent letters to private landowners in several eastern Marathon County towns - Franzen, Bevent, Elderon, Reid, Norrie, Ringle, Plover, Easton and Harrison - to gauge people's interest in having the trail run through their property.
Marathon County volunteers who maintain the Ice Age Trail say they are closer than ever to connecting legs of the trail here to nearby counties.
Will Sanford, a volunteer with the Marathon County chapter of the Ice Age Trail, said organizers have been trying to connect the trail to outlying counties for more than 20 years.

The Plover River work was aided by the Marathon County Forestry Department, Natural Resource Foundation, Friends of Trout, state trout stamp funds and a donation from the Jeff Ludkey family in his memory.
Since 1992, approximately 16 miles of the Plover River in Marathon County, Prairie River in Lincoln County and several other smaller streams have been reconstructed to improve trout habitat and water quality.
This past summer, about three-quarters of a mile of rehabilitation work was completed on the Plover near Bevent and a similar amount on the Prairie near Merrill, said Herb Hintze, president of the local chapter.
