 LIMACELLA in the Pacific Northwest
A few missing details have been added (and marked as such) from David Arora: Mushrooms Demystified, A.H. Smith: Mushrooms in their Natural Habitats, Kent H. McKnight: A Field Guide to Mushrooms North America, and in the case of Limacella roseicrema, Murrill's original description from Mycologia 4: 212.
Limacella is a small genus in the family Pluteaceae.
It is characterized by a viscid to slimy glutinous cap with free or almost free gills; a central stem that varies from dry to glutinous in different species, with or without an annulus, but lacking a volva.

 The Genus Volvariella (MushroomExpert.Com)
Field guides, and even the current Dictionary of the Fungi, list Volvariella as a member of the Pluteaceae family, which also includes Pluteus--but it appears that the genetic jig is up, since DNA studies have revealed that Pluteus and Volvariella could not be much farther apart, genetically, and still share membership in the order Agaricales.
Volvariella, it turns out, lines up very near to "schizophylloid" mushrooms like Schizophyllum commune, at the far southern edge of the Agaricales (see Moncalvo et al., 2002, on the References page).

Every Taxonomic Congress means hundreds of name changes, new families, renaming, reversing to an old name, etc., etc. I knew about Pluteaceae family but the last info I had, they were reversed back to the Amanitaceae.
Well I'm not up to date in this matter so I'm going on your hand; they probably "reactivated" the Pluteaceae.
Anyway they are quite close to Amanitaceae so who knows, three months from now they'll change it again.
