In Parliament, Nancy Astor devoted herself to the causes of women and children, temperance, education and nursery schools.
In her maiden speech to Parliament on 24th February 1920, Lady Astor strongly advocated the return of the strict drinking hours which had prevailed during the War.

Plymouth was where the defeated Napolean Bonaparte was brought aboard the HMS Bellerophon (1786) before his exile to St Helena in 1815 and the surviving crew of the RMS Titanic disaster disembarked on their return to England in 1912.
On on December 14 1810, Plymouth was struck by the strongest tornado yet reported in the UK (as of August 2005), with a T8 rating on the TORRO scale, and a wind speed of 213 to 240 mph.
In 1914 the County Borough of Plymouth merged with the Municipal Borough of Devonport, Devon and the Urban District of Stonehouse, East Stonehouse to form an enlarged County Borough.

Plymouth, Sutton is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
It is based in the city of Plymouth, in South West England.
In a by-election in 1919, it became the second constituency in the UK (and the first in Great Britain) to elect a female MP, and the first to take a seat in parliament (the first female MP was a Sinn Fein member, who did not take her seat).

The constituency was created in 1832, and elected two members until 1918, when the number was reduced to one.
