At almost 2500 feet Plynlimon is most definitely a mountain and when the mist is down, as it was that day, careful navigation and sensible clothes are essential.
Plynlimon is always something of a climb but it was worth it -the views were superb.
Plynlimon in mist played its usual cruel tricks on some participants who experienced difficulties in locating checkpoint 4 at Nant-y-Moch but the majority of walkers, by now soaked to the skin, continued on to checkpoint 5 at Elerch and then on to the finish at Clarach, the last brave souls arriving at 10:30 p.m.

The way off Plynlimon to the north was down the side of a corry cut into the mountain.
The valleys to the north of Plynlimon are quite remote and exposed, the afternoon was turning into evening and I needed to find somewhere to camp.

In a nonblind attempt to see whether closer signatures could produce a fit equivalent to Japan's, a solution was begun with Plynlimon, the best-fitting of the European signatures.
(The very high samples just left of Plynlimon is not in contention because its coefficient is negative.) That improves the overall fit to a decent 0.73, nearly as good as the 0.65 for the Japanese signatures.
The moral here is that the most obvious sources may not be the only ones to give a good fit, and may not represent the correct solution.

Our Walk was from the source of the River Wye on Plynlimon Mountain, Central Wales to its mouth at Beachley, at the edge of the Forest of Dean near Chepstow.
The Wye Walkers: Cees from Holland and Terence, Sam, Daryl and 2 dogs, Shadow and Jessie, a Doberman cross Collie and a Welsh Springer Spaniel, myself the delivery man. In the weeks running up to the expedition rainfall had been heavy and I was concerned the weather may deteriorate again.
We were able to see the route we had taken and the breathtakingly lovely mountains surrounding Plynlimon with immense clarity.

April, 1998 at about 11 o' clock, halfway up the slope of Plynlimon, to where Nick Frost had brought us in his van, together with the dogs and our backpacks.
It started to rain as soon as we left the warm and cosy van, first a drizzling rain that was quickly to change into a real storm, and we were all completely soaked within ten minutes.
We all had a drink of the primal drops from the source and all agreed that the river Wye tasted a bit 'sheepshitty' at his/her birth.
